charged for unlimited txt messages

why is it that phone companies can sell a phone deal with unlimited text messages when really there is a cap. i rang to ask why i had been charged and they told me its onlt unlimited upto so many. so really it insnt unlimited at all. can i use this to get out of my contract?

Because the ASA have ruled repeatedly that they can. As long as most people do not nit and set limit then it is effectivly unlimited from the customers point of view.

It's stated in the fair use policy of your contract that there will be a limit and no there is no way out of your contract due to it.

However it's up in the thouusand mark of how many you can make, which is enought for most people, but stops businessus using them as a cheap way of sending SMS's to mass's

Most networks have a 'limit' of between 3000 and 5000 texts. I have to ask, do you still have thumbs?

Yep thats like 100 per day everyday! Unless the OP has been sending texts to non standard mobile numbers those texts are always chargeable :cool:

It IS ridiculous that these companies can get away with this, though. Unlimited means an infinite number, simples. They also do it with data allowances - 'unlimited' can mean as little as 500mb! Crazy. I posted on the find a cheap mobile thread regarding a site Martin recommends for comparing tariffs, mobilephonechecker. I input 3000 mins and 3000 texts into the drop down boxes and up popped Asda Mobile at £25/mth. Only problem being their T&Cs clearly state a maxmium of 2000 mins and 2000 texts on their 'unlimited' sim only plan! Meaning someone who signed up to Asda by being recommended through mobilephonechecker's site and actually used 3000 mins and 3000 texts in one month would get a bill for £120!! Be careful out there, read the T&Cs carefully before committing.

Yep read the T&Cs carefully, even a 1000 texts are difficult to use up whilst still having some kinda life

It does vary by network. For example on O2 pay and go unlimited texts means 12,000. On contract it is unlimited as long as you don't use them for commercial use or send them using a PC or other equipment.

Seems like the Asda unlimited is even more 'limited'? Seems ridiculous to me, if true?

Excuse me, I consider myself to have a life and on a good month can send double that, along with 1000 odd minutes and 3gb of data :rotfl:

Although my hand is kinda looking like a claw now must get that checked out by the doc at some point.

I pay £5 per month for O2's unlimted texts which is a whopping 12,000 to play with.

I thought you had to top up between £10-14 a month to get unlimited? - and that's only texts between 02 and 02 ?

Have you a link for paying a fiver a month for unlimited texts ? - and are they to any network ?
