I just posted this on another thread but oh well:

Good time to cancel Virgin now, as I received an email advising me of pending price increases.

"We wanted to let you know that some of our prices are increasing from 1st April 2011. Lots are staying exactly the same and some haven’t changed at all in the last two years."

(Yes but channels have gone & not being replaced, yet are still broadcasting via Sky, new channels that aren't on Virgin at all, need I say more?)

Main services (Provided by Virgin Media Ltd or Virgin Media Payments Ltd) £49.99
    Description Date/period Amount
    Telephone Line Rental 09 February - 08 March £12.24
    Talk Unlimited 09 February - 08 March £8.00
Phone, TV, Broadband Discount 09 February - 08 March £-14.00
    Free Voicemail 09 February - 08 March £0.00
    Broadband Size: L 09 February - 08 March £25.25
    TV XL Offer for
    7 Months
    Shown Below In "Your Promotional
    Saving" Which Will End 08-JUN-11
    TV Size: X L 09 February - 08 March £25.00
    Your Promotional Saving £-6.50

£50 basically for XL calls L broadband & bog standard box/ XL channels. No V+ or HD, like others seem to have at a bargain price.
£58.50 with Sky would give me Sky+ HD, more channels & whilst slower, still the unlimited use broadband & unlimited landline calls.

Neither of these include sports/movies (that's what torrents are for lol)

No broadband disconnection fee under Virgin's terms & conditions if you are cancelling due to a price increase within 30 days of being notified. They normally want £23 unless to do a mac transfer.

    Bye then.
Fog on The Tyne isn't mine all mine... but if I wanted it, I'd want it with a discount code.
  • Just rang to cancel broadband and phone, but they are closed?
Broadband has been really slow lately and it's now time to change. They have had enough of my money.
May keep tv but depends on price.
Will be ringing tomorrow to cancel and then sign up with Plusnet.

Yes they do, I've done this several times in the past.

I'd think twice about doing this though as Virgin are so incompetent thet they will mess it up completely and you will have lots of hassle trying to sort it, I'd pay the increase just to not have to deal with them!

I'm stuck with them, we live in a rented property that doesnt have a BT line etc. I'd be off like a shot if i had the option, We've had nothing but troupble with them and when we move again I will make sure it's a house that I dont have to have Virgin
  • Just been on to VM and told them i would like to cancel!! The staff have not been told that you have a right to cancel and do not know their own T&C's. They were not going to cancel me without £160 as i am stil inside my minimum contract.

I simply told them that under there T&C's J6 titled "if" and J5 titled "if" in there legal stuff that they are breaking there own "T&C's. Then came the why are you leaving patter!!!

They are the cheapest(for me)!!! and being a previous sky customer there is not alot between customer services!! ( not very good) So i stated that i wanted a FREE virgin+ box and the same services a little cheaper to stay and to my amazement they agreed!!

All VM customers should get on the phone as this is the only time you will get chance for a while!!! SKY customers can do this periodically but VM never tend to budge!!

Hope you get something!!! whoop whoop!!
  • Sorry forgot to add i had VM-
    TV L
    BB L
    Phone M
    Line rental

everyone can cancel all under the T&C's as i read it!! Could be wrong tho!!!!

I gave mine 30 days notice on TV services without any problem yesterday,
although before calling I had decided to keep the phone & broadband.

Too much hassle changing numbers, or waiting for the number to be ported - and to be honest, Virgin have the BEST broadband service. Even retained a loyalty discount of £5 a month on the phone/broadband combo.

Gentleman on the phone was very helpful, and understood my reasoning on the TV package. Did offer me a deal to keep it, but it was no different to what I was getting for the next 6 months with my loyalty discount anyway.

Now to find a 50% off code in the next 3 weeks before I book Sky TV.

Not everyone can cancel - you can only cancel affected services. Some of the services are staying the same, price-wise.
  • Well Virgin were quick in phone "to see if there was any problems that could be resolved".

See the haggle down prices thread in a short moment.

    MFW 2020 #111 Offset Balance £69,394.80/ £69,595.11

  • You can cancel any services mid contract that are increasing in price without penalty?
