You're actually allowed to cancel your affected services because of this increase - the Terms and Conditions allow for early termination with no fee in the event of a price rise. Some of the services are staying the same, but for me, all of my services were increased in price so I qualified for full cancellation. My minimum period would have ended in June otherwise.

I cancelled my contract about an hour ago and re-signed with Sky, with my landline & broadband going with Orange. Will save about £5 a month all told.

I received the letter informing of the price increases today.. I have a bundle with TV L and Broadband L at a total cost of £30.50 a month..

It says that TV L is going up £1.25 and Broadband L £0.75 does this mean my bill will be increased to £32.50 a month regardless of the fact I have a bundle i.e. the price increase applies to whether you have a standalone product or a bundle?

Also, I have read that you can cancel your contract early because of price increases, does anyone know if I did this would that make me a "new customer" and then I could perhaps apply again for Virgin Media (and get some nice cashback to reduce the cost per month)?

I've looked around at other companies offering their Internet services but for all of those I'd need a landline (which I don't have, I use a VoIP line which saves on the line rental).. and also these other companies have quite strict caps on useage and we use the Internet a lot..

    Thanks in advance..

There is absolutely no way whatsoever that Virgin would let you cancel the contract and immediately re-sign with them at the same address. You might be able to do so after a period of time, but definitely not straight away.

As far as the price rises on bundles allowing cancellation, i really can't say either way as my services were all indiviually chosen.
  • Right I think that decides it for me, I'm changing to Sky!
I'm currently on XL TV with L broadband but don't have a landline so it will cost a bit more but I think it's worth it.
My TV box is sooo slow, it takes about a minute to load catch up and on demand TV and my braodband keeps losing its connection. I've had a replacement brand new box and it is actually worse than the old one! The customer service is getting woeful and their HD service is substandard.
I think it is time for a change.

Hardly worth all the hassle for £5!

For me it is - and it's no hassle anyway since I have the dish still outside my flat and the BT socket still there as well.

It's just a case of reconnecting the dish and re-activating the BT socket and that's it.

Yes they do, I've done this several times in the past.

I've just read their terms and conditions on cancelling. I have a BB, phone and TV package, but only the TV package is going up. However, their t and c's say "You may cancel those services affected without penalty".

How does that work then if I'm on a package?
Even if you are a minority of one, the truth is the truth.

Haven't we lost Bravo and channel one from the tv package? and still the price is going up?
