Excellent news that they've been stopped from taking vulnerable people's money. Too bad if they now go down the tubes still owing it back
  • Looks like their fraudulent business plan is now fatally undermined.

Those who had money taken from their current accounts should be able to use this as evidence of an unauthorised payment.

This is always an issue for the MOJ as any major intervention, although welcome, runs that risk.

The MOJ suspended their authorisation completely and Tucan then immediately applied for a stay of the suspension. At the application hearing the tribunal imposed the no up-front fee condition pending a full appeal hearing on the suspension.

The banning of up front fees will effectively destroy their advance fee fraud model and could still force the company under.

Indeed but I believe that if they are suspended (rather than just prevented from taking up-front fees) at the point they go into liquidation it can make it easier to pursue the culprits.
  • Please be aware that according to "Companies in the UK" website they have changed to tucan.com
  • after reading all this about tucan claims being a scam company on here and other sites..

my father who is 69 was duped by this company last january, saying they could get money back from his credit card limit being changed to a higher amount without his approval... anyway he paid the £249.99 refundable deposit to them.. after they had cold called him... ( if i had known about this call i would have advised him against this.. but unfortunately he told me about it thereafter, when the money had been taken GRRR!) Anyway over the past year he has phoned them several times for updates on his claim and i have lost count of the times i have emailed them...(emails all kept) ... approx 2 weeks before christmas (december 2011) he had lady from tucan claims call him to say theres nout more her company can do to help him.. so they will refund his deposit by cheque in next few days ... this is now the 5 th january 2012 and no cheque has been forward.... REALISTICALLY can someone advise me.. what to do next? i emailed them yesterday threatening action against them,, as of yet no reply... im always warning my parents of the scams that are out there. :(

He did pay through his credit card.. so would we be able to approach credit card company to try and regain his money back?

all replies or thoughts or advice would be welcomed .. thanks
  • Anyone who feels they deserve a refund from Tucan should contact Ministry of Justice to complain. Contact the credit card company you used to pay Tucan and claim the money back under the standard terms of your credit agreement. You should get your money back from your credit card issuer - I did
