ive never read the one about causing dyslexia and left handed , ihave two boys had the same amount of scans and my youngest is dyslexia and left handed although i really dont thinkits to do with the scans lol.

ive refused the antenatal visits i think there the ones i have anyway where they teach you how to look after a baby im pretty sure i d fne and i havent the time. at 31 with a full time job, two kids a hubby and loads of xtended family im sure i know how to look after a bubba by now .

i do want to go and have a look round the maternity unit and labour ward though as i havent seen the ones where i will be going this time apart from when i went to visit my niece who was born asleep a couple of yrs ago so i didnt really take much in. i loved our old hospital though, and our midwifes dont work the same anymore, we used to have two/three midwifes the whole way through checking us and at least oneof themwould be with yu te whole way through labour. now you get who ever is on duty, im not happy about that, i keep thinking of asking my mum to come in with me this time as well as hubby but i dont want her taking over,

redwood put nicely and sums up how you feel it isnt offending hun everyone is allowed opinions, we dont all have to agree lol. x

    I like this bit!

PP - Please record the conversation if any of the midwives request to visit you at home to make sure its 'suitable'....

I'm smiling just thinking about it!

They already offered to come to the house to do antenatals.. I said no thank you .. :p

They also asked what I would like from them.. I replied I want you to leave me alone and if I need you or need anything I know where to find you.. I wasn't rude I just made it perfectly plain they are not important to me, I know where they are and that'll do.

I already have antibodies which can cause the baby to be severely anaemic (enough to warrant in utero blood transfusions) cause severe jaundice or death.. I have however got the physio referral I was refused last time.. the MW recalled how unable to walk I was from last time and didn't even argue.. which last time they did which is why I think I was so bad. I'll probably end up going at about 30 weeks with the kidneys playing up and goodness knows what else.

DD4 and DD5 already have disabilities, DD4 has cerebral palsy, growth hormone deficiency and severe hypermobility and DD5 has very severe hypermobilty and neither can walk far and DD4 is often in pain with muscle spasms and joint pain so I'll face anything that is thrown at me and deal with it if I have to. As well as these DS3 has Aspergers and DS2 has growth hormone deficiency, severe dyslexia and dyspraxia, moderate hypermobility and a 2 year development delay.

Mirror.. the antenatals are the checks by the midwife.. you are thinking the parentcraft classes I think? there is some research backing theclaim that excessive scanning in pregnancy does increase the risk of lefthandedness and dyslexia and a couple of other thins.. but I think it is rubbish TBH, I was scanned every 2-4 weeks with DD3 and she has none of those things, DS3 I had 3 scans and he is lefthanded despite there being noone in mine or KH's family who is lefthanded. DS2 has dyslexia and is lefthanded also but I had loads of scans with him particularly at the beginning when I m/c his twin.

  • Well, I for one will be having any and every test they can throw at me.

By refusing some tests you could also be putting you and your baby at risk. Say they discover something at any one of the tests offered that is treatable if detected but if left is potentially life threatening.
    .

But the trouble is, what we're discussing isn't a test for a 'syndrome or condition' or even an abnormality. It's a test for a 'risk factor'. There lies the problem. If the blood work and nuchal gave you a definitive diagnosis, many more women would be comfortable having them. They don't though - all they tell you is that you have a high or low risk of an abnormality. The definitive test is the CVS or amnio, and the reason they are not routinely offered to all women, is that some healthy babies would be miscarried as a result of having them. this means that lots of women who receive a 'high risk' result of abnormality, of perhaps 1 chance in 100, will have to weigh those odds against the odds of miscarrying their baby should they have CVS or amnio to get a definitive answer.

It's a terrible choice to have to make.
  • May I ask why lefthandedness keeps being put in the same category as dyslexia? Last time I checked, being lefthanded wasn't a disability? Perhaps I have missed the point somewhere.

I am aware of what the various tests do and what the 'next steps' are should a high risk be identified :)

I agree very much with what puwpurrs said at the top of this page.

no i dont think its being put inthe same category, pigpen was just saying there have been some studies tha show excessive scanning may have something to do with being left handed or to do with dyslexia. we are not saying its a disability. although when my son throws a tantrum about it i could disable his whinging lol

it is nice but it doesn't look very bump friendly.. depends on fabric and how big your are I guess.. there is no way it would fit me by the summer.. and getting a bigger size might be too big on the boobs.
