And the answer is still the same as above.

none are the best and none are the worst as they all have problems in one form or another. It's just that some are more popular with their problems than others.

You are missing the point. My suggestion was to use samknows to identify what your LLU options are.
And yes, BT are consistently near the bottom of the ratings in all consumer broadband surveys-as well as being among the most expensive.

TalkTalk has worse customer service than BT.

OK, so here are the available LLUs from that website for my area.

AOL, O2/Be, C&W/Bulldog, Orange, Sky/Easynet, TalkTalk (CPW), Tiscali and Tiscali TV. Obvious BT works in my area, but it's not on the list.

    The ones that are not available are;
Edge Telecom, Entanet, Lumison, NewNet, Node4, Pipex, Smallworld, WB Internet and Zen Internet.

Is this what you asked for?

Where did you hear that 'BT have a high reputation'?
Maybe it was in the same sense that a rotting carcass or mouldy cheese can be described as being "high"?

O2/Be would be the obvious choice from that set were it not for the line fault. I found O2 to be very reluctant to call out BT to fix a line fault. So reluctant I ditched ADSL entirely and switched to cable. Be might be better as their support is separate.

That's not really a recommendation for BT though...
BT is not on the list because it's not LLU, along with hundreds of reseller ISP's who use BT Wholesale services.
Your obvious LLU choices there are O2/Be or Sky.

Don't forget the supposedly dodgy line. Who would bet on Sky with their offshore support being able to get that sorted out?

Harking back to that line is the OP certain the fault lies with the actual line and not the internal cabling?

I just took a look at Skys website and it's confusing as heck.

What's the difference between the line that spans between my wall socket and the switch box out in the street 500m away, and the internal cabling?

The difference is that if the problem lies in your internal cabling and BT come out and find that you'll be stiffed with a bill for over £100.

Do you have any extensions? If so they are a possible source of noise so eliminate them entirely by removing the faceplate on your master socket and connect just using a filter to the inner socket. Record all the stats then check again with your normal setup. If the stats vary significantly then there is a problem with your wiring rather than the line itself.

Some assistance with that and phone wiring optimisation for ADSL - http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/socket.htm

TalkTalks DLM has not optimised my connection for stability, and it's just as unstable as when I had nearly 3mbps. DLM is simply a means of cash cow for TalkTalk by lowering speeds whilst TalkTalk keeps prices high. I've previously been told by TalkTalk people in India or where-ever their call centre is that they'll turn DLM off for me, or manually force it to give me higher speeds etc, but they were all lies.

No, I've given up being polite with TalkTalk, and even demands are useless. I've even sent a written letter by snail-mail to the head office and that didn't help. Emailing the above address would yield no better results other than for trickery on trying to get me to stay with TalkTalk.

In this regard, actions speak louder than words. On that ground, there won't be any action from TalkTalk.

So when my subscription is due for renewal, I'm leaving for greener pastures.

    Hi,

If you email me your details and a link to this thread, I will happily look at what DLM is doing and if needed amend....
