to BT or not to BT

I'm currently with TalkTalk Pro/Plus phone and broadband package. After a few months they decided to half my download speed and are doing whatever they can to keep it that way.
They have an advert poster in our town centre which says "Full fat broadband. Skinny Prices." whilst using pictures like lattes etc. To me it should go something like "Skinny broadband. Full fat prices."
I'm currently something like 6 months through my 18 month contract and already I'm thinking of switching. However, I don't know which provider to go for.
The thing is, the cause of my broadband speed being so slow, is a problem with the line between my home and the exchange which has caused TalkTalks hellish DLM hardware/software to set my speed so low. However, they won't repair the problem.
I've known BT have have a high reputation to repair problems and keep things running smoothly. However, their prices are extortionate.
Are their any providers that would be just as good, but far cheaper?

Please ignore. I've decided that when the time comes, I'll just switch to BT. I don't want any chances from cheaper providers. TalkTalks pro/plus package has been increased to just shy of BTs option 3 on broadband/phone package.
I spoke to a BT sales assistant, but she said that they do replace phone lines, but she doesn't know how much it will cost. So, I've got to call 0800 800150 to find out.0 -
Hello aurongrande,
It sounds like DLM has "Optimised" your connection for stability. We should be able to resolve this with a flick of a switch "so to speak" If you want me to take a look fire me your details and I will see what i can do:

TalkTalks DLM has not optimised my connection for stability, and it's just as unstable as when I had nearly 3mbps. DLM is simply a means of cash cow for TalkTalk by lowering speeds whilst TalkTalk keeps prices high. I've previously been told by TalkTalk people in India or where-ever their call centre is that they'll turn DLM off for me, or manually force it to give me higher speeds etc, but they were all lies.
No, I've given up being polite with TalkTalk, and even demands are useless. I've even sent a written letter by snail-mail to the head office and that didn't help. Emailing the above address would yield no better results other than for trickery on trying to get me to stay with TalkTalk.
In this regard, actions speak louder than words. On that ground, there won't be any action from TalkTalk.
So when my subscription is due for renewal, I'm leaving for greener pastures.0 -
BT Retail have no greater leverage to get BT Openreach to fix a line fault than TT have, so I really wouldn't assume that the grass is going to be greener with BT.
Why not switch to a decent and cheaper ISP?
Where did you hear that 'BT have a high reputation'?No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Broadband is exchange specific, so it depends what is available at your exchange.
Suggest you start with a exchange search on https://www.samknows.com and see what your LLU options are-these will be the cheapest deals. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
It's been a long time since I've looked at other ISPs. It's still the same morass isn't it! Some old names and some new.0

from personal experience. My parents are on BT, and whenever they had a problem, it didn't take long for BT to solve it.0 -

And the answer is still the same as above. No free lunch, and no free laptop0
