I made the switch to EDF yesterday and found out about the price increase about 2 hours later! Still got time to cancel the deal so need to act fast
From the UK Power site for the EON increase. I've put in my Online Saver 5 figures and it's not affected, as they say.
'Tariffs affected by this price rise are: Standard, Green, Online S@ver v6, and Energy Discount Plans v2, v3 and v4. All tariffs now have a daily standing charge. Standard Electricity tariffs have risen by 7.4% and standard gas by 6.5% or an overall dual fuel increase of 6.9%. Discounts are unaffected.
The new tariffs are on the UKPower comparison calculator which shows the future annual costs based on the new tariffs'.0 -

I am not convinced the MSE article has provided a balanced appraisal of EDF here. The company kept it's prices lower at the most expensive time of the year while other companies increased their prices. Seems to me that this is a very reasonable thing for EDF to have done for its customers. I guess nothing is good enough for some people.

I switched to EDF towards the end of December. I emailed my 'initial meter readings' as per instructions, but received 2 further emails from them in early- and mid-January, which again asked for my 'initial meter readings'.
I submitted further readings ... and explained that they weren't actually 'initial' as my first readings had been previously supplied in December, followed by two more in January.
However, this morning I received another email ... again requesting my 'initial meter readings'. I phoned EDF. Apparently they have no record of any of my readings.
Perhaps they are hanging until March so that I can be charged en masse at the higher rate?0 -

I tend to agree with your comment James.
Anyone who joined EDF just before or after the Price Freeze Guarantee would have expected this increase as soon as it ended.Indeed another article by MSE I think asked for predictions about the date of the increase.:o
There is currently some doubt and confusion about whether the increase relates to the Online 7 product which many of us signed up to. That confusion should unravel in the next few days.
Anyone who is here regularly, will not be shocked by the price increase,in fact I would be more pleasantly shocked if it didn't happen.
More pertinent has been the lack of system support to manage the aquisition of customers to EDF,which quite frankly has been disgraceful.:mad:0 -

For sure it was invitable EDF prices would rise eventually and certainly important to keep on top of price rises occasionally, particulary to help elderly relatives without access to the internet.
I checked with EDF by phone and was given the pending ex VAT increases relative to last years Option 6 online package as follows:
Electric standing: 20.61p/day to 26.54p/day: 29% increase
Gas standing: 23.85p/day to 25.25p/day: 6% increase
So for the two standing charges, a rise of approx 17% overall, equating to an increase of around £27/yr to approx £190/yr.
Electric units: 7.07p to 7.73p: 6% increase
Gas units: 2.455p to 2.83p: 15% increase
Biggest rise seems to be a 15% increase in EDF gas prices from March onwards, but they use less gas March onwards anyway. So will reassess their best options for the winter period of 2011-12 in May-June when option 6 is penalty free.
Never had any problems with EDF accounts or customer services myself, but I only speak to them to check things maybe once a year so cannot judge really. Quite happy to continue accounts with them provided their costs remain reasonable relative to other providers.
ZED, doubt EDF will charge previous usage at the higher rates, just give them the meter readings before the next bill is due and ahead of the increases, end of February quarterly bill I think. Alternatively EDF will probably just send a bill with a breakdown of the charges before and after the date of the increase. If EDF were indeed to charge for previous use at the higher rate, I would find that quite shocking (pun).

I telephoned EDF today and was told that online version 7 in my region - the Midlands - is not having a price increase.0
