i've had 3 sections and within 24 hours i was up walking about , no pain. i was off to a nice hot bubbly bubble bath second i got out of bed, i painted my toe nail's. stripped my hospital bed so i could change it. i'm one of these mum's nothing holds me back. i get up i get going.
plus they gave me some wonderful tablets for pain. voltarol, so i had no pain brillent.
i found with section it is all about PMA. and always being positive. so even if you do have one, don't see it as a set back. just somethign to look forward to even more.0 -
It sounds like great timing to me. Wish I had been able to go to spain when mine were that young. What a lovely thing to look forward to. As soon as baby is born apply for his/her passport. Can take time to come through.0

You'll be fine, and you'll also have plenty of family members around you to help with the baby if you need it (in particular to take baby for a walk while you have a rest/take a bath etc).0

As it happened my little one was quite poorly and we had to stay in for another week and I got treated with so much more respect by the staff for dressing myself and when dealing with consultants etc I felt they took me more seriously.
Anyway, I've massively digressed there but my point is, yes if you have a section rest but get up and about as quickly as you can bear (it actually helps you heal) but by 8 weeks by god you'll be ready for a holiday, so snap it up and enjoy!i've had 3 sections and within 24 hours i was up walking about , no pain. i was off to a nice hot bubbly bubble bath second i got out of bed, i painted my toe nail's. stripped my hospital bed so i could change it. i'm one of these mum's nothing holds me back. i get up i get going.

High five to you ladies.
I was back and forth to SCBU for a month after my first section and moved house 5 weeks after my second, a holiday at 8 weeks would have been a doddle, and very welcome!
I have to agree it's PMA and get up and go that gets you over a section, by 8 weeks you should be well and truly back to normal.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -
I took my eldest on a long haul flight (to Canada) when he was 12 weeks old also to celebrate a milestone birthday of a relative. I was worried about it, as much as I wanted to go, but it turned out exactly as others said. Baby was very portable, we got suitable buggy and travel cot and it was far easier than I imagined it would be. I had a c-section with him too and was fine.0

True, but the only real restriction is that you shouldnt drive for a while. Flying should be fine.
Also not supposed to lift heavy weights for a few months afterwards, so make sure your OH carries the suitcases. I lifted our recycling box full of paper about 6 weeks after my first section, and dropped it immediately, I was in so much pain! Like others I felt ok quite quickly after my sections so it is easy to forget it is major abdominal surgery and you do need to give yourself time to heal.
OP - I would get the passport form now and fill in as much as you can so all you have to do is add baby's details, get the photos and have it countersigned when baby is born. The last thing you want to be doing in the first few weeks after the birth is pottering around looking for your own passports which you'll need to fill in the application for the baby's one. Also pick who will countersign it, and remind them before the birth to bring their own passport with them when they come for the new birth visit, so you can get it all sorted asap. As others have said depending on the date of the holiday and whether your baby comes on time you might only have about 6 weeks to get the passport applied for and back from the passport office and that might be a bit tight if you aren't quick off the mark.0 -

we also did that, but it was with my first section.
i didn't know i wasn't meant to drive a car , i drove a couple days after section.
and as for sex ! well i horrified my midwife when she visited a week after birth saying don't do it for 8 week's, i told her, bit late did it night i came home, lol
but i do think it is down to each person. they can give you guidelines but you as a person make the choice as to how you feel and what you want to do.0 -
Surprised nobody has mentioned it, but if you have a c-section it normally takes up to a couple of months to heal properly. Just something to be considered.
Having had a caesarian you will be fine to travel 2 months later. I got the OK to drive 4 weeks after section from GP. I was given absolutely no advice about lifting after my section, ( I had a 4year old and no one said don't pick him up) just be sensible.0 -
I slightly disagree that it's PMA / get up and go or whatever that gets you over a caesarian, after mine I was determined not to be a 'wallower' and wanted to get about and be normal asap (not overdoing it though), and ended up 'crashing' two weeks later and then took until 12 weeks after the birth until I could get about as normal. It's different for each person and you never know how it's going to be for you I suppose.
My first thought after reading the OP was no way would I arrange that kind of holiday for so close to the birth, but then that's based on me having a longer recovery time than others after my baby was born and knowing I couldn't have done it. But as I said you never know how you will feel afterwards, regardless of method of birth, so as long as you have appropriate insurance etc in place in case you physically can't make the trip then it should be fine.0
