Aygo vs C1 vs 107

I'm considering one of these city cars for my next vehicle. As they are all basically the same, is there any benefit to choosing one specific model over its rivals & how will the price differentials compare between all three.. I'm looking to purchase a 4/5 yr old model .

ok I'm going to rattle through this, I bought a 2nd hand c1 VTR just before christmas so the 'what to lookout for' is fresh in my mind.

pricewise they should all be similar, the aygo holds its value slightly better but as you say they are all exactly the same car so there is no mechanical reason why you should pay more for an aygo over a c1 or 107. although spec (aircon elec windows ect) do depend on model so you will have to compare which has the trim you want.

the aygo is far more prone to the rear window leaking than the c1 and 107 (but it can still happen on the c1 and 107 tough is very uncommon) when you look at any of them check thoroughly the rear footwells and all of the boot (under the spare wheel) for any signs of water as that may indicate it was/does leak, also check the rear windows for double seals as that was the fix for problematic vehicles.

the 'before face lift models' were fitted with a smaller clutch that needed replacing as it wore out, you will want to check the log book to see if a new clutch has been fitted, as when a new one is fitted they use the bigger 'yaris' clutch that is much more hard wearing (the new facelift models come with the larger clutch as standard, and it is not necessary that the clutch had to be replaced just if it has already then you likely won't need to in the future)

also the famous toyota accelerator problems only affected the multimode transmission (MMT) aygos and 107s (the automatic ones) so any manual ones are completely unaffected.

also listen out for any suspicious rattling

Those are the basic faults to look out for, I know it sounds bad but when you look into the problems of any car it is always scary.

as I say I have a c1 and it is a pleasure to drive, it is no long distance cruser but can happily cope with a stint on the motorway, and is perfect in the city/suburbs.

do you have a price you are looking for, you may be supprised you can go newer than 5/6 year old one

also check out the C1 owners club thay know the car (aygo and 107 too) inside and out.

They are same cars in disguise. But if you buy Toyota you'll get 5-yr warranty.
Happiness is buying an item and then not checking its price after a month to discover it was reduced further.

They are all the same car, but the different models have different specifications - at 4-5 years old go mileage and condition. Aircon is worth having.

Look for Aygo+ or Sport if you want more than basic as they have electric windows, remote locking and 4 speaker stereo. Sport also has alloys, front fog lights and rev counter.

Our Aygo + is four years old and for the spec it has it was the cheapest of the three when we bought it, but it is worth more than the other two now.
  • can i also throw into the pot

    Suzuki Alto

same type of car, very well spec'ed out, most have electric windows and aircon
  • A quick question, do you weigh over 12st 2lbs? If you do then you are at risk with these cars. I quote from auto express article which was also in the Independent newspaper, this women died in one of these cars in an accident AT 30MPH that would have been survivable in others. I would not risk it personally.
"A recent tragedy, in which the 16-stone driver of a Peugeot 107 was killed in an accident experts concluded was survivable, suggests not all drivers are looked after to the same extent.

Car companies are now confronting the possibility that their small models especially are far from super-safe if the driver is anything other than the 12st 2lbs (77kg) 'average' that dominates occupant protection development...

The inquest into the death of Judith Evans, 56, from Aylesbury, Bucks, heard that her car's seatbelt had extended to its farthest position, and that the airbag and anti-submarining seat failed to provide effective protection. The coroner at High Wycombe Magistrates' Court explained: "This doesn't mean the equipment was faulty, but at the end of the day it didn't save her life."

Vehicle safety consultant, Dr Peter Gloyns said at the inquest that "the accident raises a serious question over the stability of the response of the total restraint system for an occupant of this build and weight".

In the head-on crash with a Vauxhall Vectra in January 2009, Evans, a mother of three, suffered multiple fractures and chest and abdominal injuries. From the speed - 30mph - and damage to her 107, witnesses expressed surprise that anyone died on board. One person wrote on an Internet blog site: "Mrs Evans died when she shouldn't have. I saw the car and it looked immaculate inside. To be told that someone lost their life in there is a shock."

Dr Gloyn called on vehicle designers to make restraint systems more effective for different sized occupants...

At the inquest into Mrs Evans' death, Peugeot's head of safety, Richard Zeitouni, said the 107 had not been crash tested with a dummy weighing more than 12st 2lbs. A Peugeot spokesman has since added that individual components are tested to extremes - seatbelts, for example, to occupant weights of 110kgs.

"The testing we conduct is far more stringent that the European regulations stipulate," added the spokesman...

Dr Gloyns said to Auto Express, "What happened to this lady could potentially happen to a lot of other people as well. The restraint systems in all three cars - the 107, Aygo and C1 - need to be looked at carefully and improvements made."

Some companies, such as Volvo, use a 95 percentile male dummy (6ft 2in tall and weighing 15st 10lbs/100kgs) in their crash testing.

EuroNCAP are working to introduce a larger dummy for front and side impact tests in 2014."

Sorry to say it chap, but do you also refuse to fly, cross the road or walk down the stairs - they all have a freak chance of being able to kill you too. Generally speaking these cars are safe to drive, the truth being that the failure of one of the safety features is tragic, the failure of them all is about as likely as dying in an air accident - but ultimately like everything CAN happen.

Even the coroner admitted that there was a chance they could have failed but that could have happened to anyone - and the "one person on an internet forum" argument hasn't stuck for over 10 years now, no reason to start letting it stick now.

As for the OP's question, i may be wrong, but i recall something about one of the cars being in a lower/higher insurance bracket - can't remember which though!
