A quick question, do you weigh over 12st 2lbs? If you do then you are at risk with these cars. I quote from auto express article which was also in the Independent newspaper, this women died in one of these cars in an accident AT 30MPH that would have been survivable in others. I would not risk it personally.

I would like to know how exactly she was sat and did she not have the seat belt in the correct position (because older and [STRIKE]fat[/STRIKE] overweight people tend to slacken the seatbelt out which completely defeats the purpose of having the seatbelt)

I doubt there is anything inherently wrong with the safety functions, and as the other poster says freak accidents happen all the time, like falling off a 1000 foot drop and surviving, but then die by falling over putting your trousers on.

also was just her car/ the other car doing 30 or both cars doing 30 (therefore a 60mph crash), what about the seating position? was it laid back or fully upright?
all little facts that are left out of a story (on purpose to create a sensationalist story/headline?) which hinders the ability to form an accurate informed conclusion.

Yeah sensationalist story.........carry on take the risk.......I wouldnt or risk my family in one of these cars, buy one if you will risk yourself/family.

I bet the people calling it sensationalist already have one and are putting up the shutters. I just hope you do not have to see IF it is sensationalist or TRUE

Two cars hitting each other at 30mph does not cause any more damage than one car hitting a wall at 30mph, as the damage is divided equally. The 60mph crash thing is a myth, based on a misunderstanding of basic physics.

Unless this can be shown to be true in a systematic manner it is a sensationalist story. I do not see that evidence here.

IMHO the Hyundai i10 is better than any of these.
I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.

I would agree with that, but you can't get a five year old one.

Personally I think the great underrated small car is the Mitsubishi Colt. Impeccable reliability, cheap to buy, economical and decent looking in 3-door guise.

Head in sand carry on, The fact an expert(Dr Peter Gloyns)
The restraint systems in all three cars - the 107, Aygo and C1 - need to be looked at carefully and improvements made.
said this in a court of law........but you ignore it, carry on taking the risk. I dont care if you want to justify driving one.........I WONT OR RISK MY FAMILY IN ONE. :shhh:

Sorry to say it chap, but do you also refuse to fly, cross the road or walk down the stairs - they all have a freak chance of being able to kill you too. Generally speaking these cars are safe to drive, the truth being that the failure of one of the safety features is tragic, the failure of them all is about as likely as dying in an air accident - but ultimately like everything CAN happen.

I read the full article and the aygo was on our list to replace a second car, however when you read the comments of the ncap guy it certainly makes you think that may be the car isnt as safe as it should be. The seat belt and the seats didnt provide the protection they should have, if she hadnt been as big or had been smaller than the average dummy used in the safety tests she would have lived. Something I also didnt know is that there is something special about the seat belt on these cars and the advice was not to buy a car with this device, cant remember what it was :(

Sure all cars cant be 100% safe but just look at the bloke that designed the maclaren sports car his new city car was recently crashed into a wall at 50 mph and the seat belts and seats did their job and the engine compartment took all of the force of the crash.

Will I buy a 107 or one of the other two, dont think so.

Yes, but who is this guy? This is not stated in the report. Is he independent.

I repeat, until and unless this opinion can be tested in a systematic manner, it is unproven. As with any safety concern, it does need to be investigated. A number of cars have been flagged as potentially unsafe over the years -- only for later tests to dismiss the fault as speculative.

I've never owned one of these cars. I've never driven one, nor have I even been in one. But I will not take one story, with one man's opinion as the main crux, as conclusive evidence.

Look at the "disastrous" Toyota accelerator pedal fiasco. More sensationalism, whipped up into a frenzy by the US press. Except for one small snag -- Toyota don't have a problem with stuck accelerator pedals over and above the competition:

    Hmmm.
