  • I absolutely agree with the advice to walk away. If it's any consolation, every time I've had to walk away from a property (and the most recent was within the last couple of months) I've ended up being happy that i had as I've found another property I liked even better!

So time to go back to the estate agents and rightmove!!

8 complainants about one person means they are a problem.

Or there are a lot of malicious people who'll complain about anyone.

    Either way run.
Excellent point. Even if that guy is actually alright, the other 7 aren't. :/ So your choices are:
    a) bad
    b) worse.
too foreign for diplomatic or PC answers, too poor for a sig
  • OP, another way to look at is that it could also be a case of a coven of witches ganging up on someone who doesn't conform as well.

Maybe they give this person a hard time because they don't keep their front garden tidy or something. Communities can be funny things and sometimes if someones face doesn't fit they are not always welcomed.

While I agree it is nice to be fore warned of this, have an open mind. Although I suppose whatever the truth is, it probably isn't going to be a great place to live as you would either be living with a bunch of interferring busy bodies or possibly someone who doesn't keep their garden tidy and has noisy dog or on the other hand he/she could be a verbal and physical thug. :)

So basically I am saying in a roundabout way, the same advice as the others. Run away! :rotfl:

Please, please walk away, in fact run like the clappers.
I lived next door to NFH and it was a living nightmare.Police were called, ASBO unit, Environmental Health, and it still didn't stop them. The paperwork we saw (copies they sent us) didn't fully explain the huge problems we had, so you need to ask, ask, and ask some more.
All we wanted to do was to get the hell out of there, but knew no-one would want to buy with those idiots living next door.
They moved in after us, so we didn't have the option you have.
We ended up renting the house out, and buying another but not everyone is in that position,so please think carefully OP, it's just not worth it.

Look up the crime stats for the road

Might throw some light on it... but be aware it's a snapshot of december during the snow so maybe that has stopped some stuff.

Very good suggestion was about to suggest it myself :D

If the neighbours are anything like mine (your average suburban street), a situation where 8 households complain about a resident on a street means something seriously bad is going on. Chances are it could serious anti-social behaviour and/or drug dealing.

I would just run..... not worth the risk at all.

You pay a solicitor for exactly this reason - use the information wisely!
  • Having moved away from neighbours from hell, I can only advise you to leave this one well alone. Buying a house is a risk, and the money you pay to solicitors for preliminary works is to safeguard you against making a mistake.

For me, the final straw came when I had a 12 month old baby screaming in her bed, I walked downstairs 8 months into my second pregnancy at 3am one cold November morning. I went and knocked for the 5th time on the neighbours door to ask them to please turn their music down and as I walked into my front door they started setting off fireworks. I've never felt so low and depressed as I did then and made a decision that I would move with my family as quickly as possible.

Walk away and thank your lucky stars you didnt make a huge mistake.
:o Trying to become debt free but this site makes me spend a fortune!!! :o

    I've been Money Tipped!
Having a nervous breakdown because of the stress and misery inflicted by a nightmare neighbour will cost you far, far more in lost wages than you could possibly lose by aborting this sale. Although a rotten neighbour could move in next door anywhere and at any time, why pay these sellers a "stretch" of a price for the privilege of taking on their problem?

My pal has a dog who is temperamentally unstable, bites whenever it chooses, chews up furniture, kitchen units and indeed the plaster off the very walls if it's left alone for more than a few minutes. He is asking £9,500 for it and will deliver it to you anywhere in the UK for that price. When shall I tell him to expect your cheque ..?
