Hopefully ill get as reply soon from the company and they can let me know what its supposed to be for!
They should be able to. Certainly when I asked about mine they were able to tell me which comparison website it was from. So hopefully they will be able to give you enough information for you to find out what it was. Obviously you have the date on your credit file, which might help you.

But just in case there is something dodgy going on (unlikely, as I can't see the benefit in someone applying for an insurance quote in your name!) have you checked the rest of your credit file? Have you checked linked addresses, linked people, etc? Anything there that you don't recognise?
Have you checked allt he accounts listed are ones that you are aware of? Are all their balances roughly correct?

Which company have you used to get your credit report from? Have you had any other credit reports in the past, or is this the first one?

    Hi all,

I have been asked by the mortgage company I am applying too, to clarify my credit applications that are on my file from Febuary 2013. I havent made any credit applications this year so was concerned. I looked at the recommended credit reference agency Call Credit as this was the one that Skipton had used. I saw the credit search NOT quotation and google it and up came this thread.

This is now going to look extremly dodgy and i have been told by my mortgage advisor that i have passed the score however they are unhappy with the amount of searches this year, which are Aviva ones. If i cant justify it (which i cant as my insurance isnt even up for renewal) i could get declined!!!

Ive read through and they said they would put them as a quotation until you go ahead with the application, I pay my insurance in full and its due 31st October 2013 so clearly i havent made this search or prompted it.

This is seriously not fair as this could cost me hudreds of pounds as ive paid solicitors fees, advisor fees and application fees and now could get declined for a search i didnt know was going to happen!!

What can i do now, I have advised my mortgage advisor but by the time this is sorted on my credit file i will have been declined!!!

THIS NEEDS TO GET SORTED AS ITS NOW STOPPING PEOPLE FROM BUYING A HOUSE which i can afford as i have a large deposit and only require £45000 mortgage.

    Help :(

Hopefully your mortgage advisor will have come across this before, jenni1188, and know how to sort it. If not, send them a link to this thread.

I had the same on mine also. On the 7th I had over 7 new insurance searches one of them Aviva. They showed as footprints on my call credit file so I emailed them consumer@callcreditgroup.com. I got a call back from Aviva yesterday they're looking into it. I haven't been searching for any insurance or comparison sites. It's bloody annoying to have anyone search you never mind without permission. Best bet is to email them an insist they remove them.

    Hi Jeni1188

I'm sorry to see your post and would like to look into this for you. If you can email me at social@aviva.co.uk with the following details

    Full name
    Date of birth
Address you were living at during the credit searches
MSE user name (so we can link your email with this post)
Details of when the credit searches took place and any reference numbers you have

I will pass this to our credit search team and ask them to investigate for you.

I hope this helps and we can get everything resolved for you soon.

    Kind regards

    Dave

I'm also looking to buy a house and was looking forward to the fact that my insurance searches from last year would fade and now I get a whole new bunch of them which has really p****d me off and has now put me back a few months. I'm still waiting on Aviva and the rest of them to get back to me on this and remove them with immediate affect. My concern is now my house insurance is coming up to 12 months at the end of July and the same will happen. I'm thinking in taking this one step further by pulling in my media contacts and do a big story on this to fight against these dirty comparison sites. This has got to be stopped its totally out of control.
