Pay Pal Top Up Card - A Reminder

I can't understand Paypal's silence on this. Even a google of the card brings up absolutely nothing. You'd expect them to be singing from the rooftops.
I NEVER got the email saying i was getting a new card. But i decided to log into the link posted on here, and it said i would now receive the card. Then someone said i was a fake site, so i quickly changed my paypal password - even though i think it was genuine.
Now, like everyone else - i'm just waiting. I don't want to link my bank account back up - as when you pay they always try to take the money from you bank and it fails. I prefer to pay via credit card. Hope someone hears something soon

Hello everyone,
I only had one e-mail from Paypal top up Card dated 15th March 2011, reminding me that my card would end on 31st March 2011. As my card expiry date was not until 09/12, I thought the e-mail might be a spoof, so I forwarded it to Spoof@paypal. I had an e-mail reply from Paypal dated 23rd March stating that their Security Team was working to identify the e-mail and they would get back in touch shortly to let me know their findings. I then left it in their hands, but when I tried to use my card on 1st April I felt a real ‘April Fool’, as I then realised that the Paypal top up Card e-mail was not a spoof after all.......Paypal have still not been back in touch since 23rd March. I checked my Paypal top up Card account this morning and it states ‘14/04/11 £195 Load Reversal Account Closure’, however, the funds are not yet showing in my Paypal account, maybe it will take a few days. I feel that we have all been set up so that Paypal top up Card can earn as much interest from our money as possible whilst it’s in their hands and their control. I have not been offered a replacement card of any type yet.

Doesn't sound good, but nothing to do with them earning interest on it, that's against banking regulations, more like a mismanaged fiasco.Nightangel wrote: »I feel that we have all been set up so that Paypal top up Card can earn as much interest from our money as possible whilst it’s in their hands and their control. None the less, a 'mismanaged fiasco' is earning THEM interest....so they are in a WIN situation and we are in a LOSE situation.....Such is Life!!0

After contacting paypal I then sent a complaint to ICO (information commissioners office).
Papal initially responded with a generic email so I replied stating I had contacted ICO and I was unhappy with them sharing my personal details without receiving the card. After all the only reason I gave them permission to send my info to prepay was for the card, not so they could hand pick the most profitable applicants.
Paypal then sent me this:
"Dear Marx,
Thank you for contacting PayPal.
I would like to inform you that as of now you do not need to do anything
to receive the PayPal access card.
Please be advised that we do not have timeframe as to when the card will
be sent to the customer however, selected customers will receive a card
beginning of May, but further communication will be sent to notify
customers on this.
I believe this will address your concern. Once again, thank you for
being a valued customer of PayPal. Should you need further clarification
regarding this matter kindly contact us.
Thank you for choosing PayPal."
I'm not sure If they're just putting me off for a while but hopefully I will receive
a new card soon and not have to pay for It......:cool:0 -
No, they don't earn interest. If you have any knowledge that they are doing report them to the banking ombudsman as it is against banking regulations.Nightangel wrote: »None the less, a 'mismanaged fiasco' is earning THEM interest....so they are in a WIN situation and we are in a LOSE situation.....Such is Life!!.0 -
Well one thing IS for sure, OUR money is not yet in OUR banks, earning OUR interest, under OUR control.....and we don't even know when it will be......!!.....I wonder how many more people thought that the e-mail in March was a spoof, because the design of it sure looked like one!! and if Paypal themselves could not advise if it was a spoof or not, what hope do we have !!??0

That response from PayPal is typical of what I have received, an "off the shelf" generic response rather than relevant to your email.
I'm pretty sure you won't be getting a new card unless you were specifically told in the email of 15th March that you would be.
It does seem fairly obvious that the "best" customers have been selected to get a new card. But which organisation did the selecting?0 -
I have received an email today confirming l will be sent one of the new cards. Here is a copy&paste of the email...no mention as yet to how much atm fees both UK and Abroad are.
