Pay Pal Top Up Card - A Reminder

For those who use this card, just to remind you that the card ceases on the 31st March 2011.

info below obtained from here
Paypal and Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS)

From 31st March 2011 Paypal will be changing their top up card issuer from RBS to PrePay. PrePay is not a well known or high street bank, however it is regulated by the Financial Services Authority, so you know your funds are safe (just…). What’s more, the card will no longer be Visa, but operate under MasterCard.

When do I get my new Paypal topup card?

Customers can continue to use their Topup card until the date the new Mastercard topup card comes into action, on the 31st March 2011. However, closer to the date, a new card will be automatically issued before your current Visa topup card expires. Any funds associated with that Visa card will be replaced back to your Paypal account which will then be available for withdrawal within 15 days. If not, a cheque will be sent.

Privacy, sharing and PrePay

When Paypal switch to the PrePay Mastercard topup card, they will be sharing all information that was originally given for the RBS Topup Visa, over to Prepay. Should you wish this information not to be shared, Paypal claim their topup card customer services must be contacted before the end of December 2010.
The cards will function in exactly the same way, and the fees will “probably” be the same.

Although not confirmed l feel its safe to say that there will not be an option to top up the new PrePay card for free as there was with the Pay Pal card.

Had an email today regarding the new card...sound like it will be alot better if you ask me

Your PayPal Top Up Card ends on 31 March 2011 and we're pleased to offer you the new PayPal Access PrePaid MasterCard® in its place. We'll take care of everything for you, all you need to do is:

Spend your Top Up Card balance by 31 March, or we'll refund it to your PayPal account – you can check your current balance by logging in now with your PayPal Top Up Card details

We will send your new card to the same address as your original Top Up Card. If your address has changed, you can update it now by logging in to the PrePay Technologies site using your PayPal login details

Wait for your new PayPal Access Card in the post – there's no need to apply. We will be in touch mid April to give you more information about the new PayPal Access Card
The new PayPal Access Card can give you instant access to your PayPal account, with no need to top up. You can use it to withdraw cash, shop online or on the high street, anywhere MasterCard cards are accepted. If you don't wish to receive a PayPal Access Card, just log in now to let us know.

  • Just had the email myself, I think there is a fiver on mine at the moment, I expect the new card will be practically the same in use.

Can I be trivial for a moment and hope it is a nicer colour than yellow :)

Not trivial at all, have to agree the yellow card is Yuk.

I'm wondering if the card can be used for Ryan Air booking etc

Hi all, I've received the email regarding the expiry on 31 March, but no offer for the new mastercard! does anyone know why???
    thanks for your help!
  • BEWARE !

This email takes you to a non paypal site, and asks you to log in with your paypal email and password.

The usual way is to use your card number and password.

You should only navigate to paypal via your web browser, rather than an emailed link.

I have a different email address registered with the card, yet the email came through to my main paypal account address.

I have reported this to spoof@paypal.com

I suggest anyone receiving this does the same.
  • I received the email last week saying that my paypal topup card was ending on 31st March but no email about a new card taking over from it.

I'm desperate to find a new card (prepaid) that I can use to transfer my ebay takings from paypal and take them out at an ATM as I currently do with the paypal topup card. Selling on items on ebay is a good way for me to top up my single income and I would struggle to manage without it. I rely on this almost instant access to my paypal funds.

The new card sounds very interesting (if its all legit) and I would hope to receive one. I've been researching online for several days now and can't find a prepaid card that will allow topups to be made from paypal. If anyone knows of one please let me know. I intend to call paypal topup card on the weekend as there is NO information at all on their website other than a sentence or 2 at the bottom of the homepage. My current card has 18months left on it so gutted it ends on 31st.

Anyone had their new card yet? Or even heard anything more about it?

I got an email about it on 28 Oct 2010, and not heard anything since. It seems there is going to be a gap between the old one stoping and getting the new one.

could someone please tell me how do i apply for one of these cards as i havent heardof them before
  • Just received this reply on the Paypal community forum - hope it hel;ps clarify things for people

    Simon

    Hi guys,

there's been some confusion about this so i'll try clarify. The situation is as follows:

    1) The PayPal Top Up card is being closed. The card will no longer work and that particular product/service is no longer offered by PayPal.

    2) There is a new card being tested by PayPal (the aforementioned PayPal Access card) that will have many of the same features of the PayPal Top Up Card. This new card is not a PayPal Top Up Card and is not a direct replacement, it is run by a different company and different criteria will apply to people who wish to get one.

    3) There will initially be a pilot group of people who will be offered the new card and they will mainly be chosen from people who had the PayPal Top Up card. Once again though, the new card is not a direct replacement for the old card so everyone who has a Top Up Card will not be part of the pilot group. A more general public will not be able to apply for the new card until after this pilot stage, we're probably talking July/August of this year. If you have the old card and are not part of the pilot group then this would be when you could apply for the new card.

    4) If you have the old card you will have received an e-mail stating either that you will be receiving the new card or an e-mail simply stating that the old card account is being closed. The first e-mail goes to people in the pilot group, the second to those who are not part of it. One of these e-mails has been sent to every single person who had the old card.

Obviously there will be some disappointment or even anger from people who are not automatically receiving a new card but this is the situation as it stands.

I apologise if I gave anyone false hope with my post back in December, I posted what I knew at that time, which was that the card was closing and there will be a new issuer of a card in March. Would people prefer I left the post as it is or edit it now in case someone doesn't read the whole thread?
