Wicked...........
Its a pity that I can't get over to my mums and post a picture of hers.
My Very artistic Niece painted it in a lovely woodland scene with a slightly Gothic twist.0 -

Are they really worth the £400+ ?
A friend of mine died and had a wicker coffin. I've no idea how much it cost, but it looked perfectly ok, quite pretty in a way as the only flowers at the funeral were wild ones. I'm not sure I'd want one for myself though, I couldn't shake the feeling that it just looked like a giant picnic hamper ... Having said that, it was nice in a way as it didn't look coffiny IYSWIM. What was a bit odd was that it was a bit 'squeaky' when it was being carried.0 -

My husband just came over to see what I was laughing at and gave me a weird look when I said, "It's a thread about coffins"....
Glad to be of service. As my first ever 'thread' on here I am some what surprised at the number of respones.

My Dad had a Bamboo coffin and yes it did resemble a picnic basket, but he was buried in a Green Burial site so I think that there was only the choice of that or a cardboard one. (hence my mothers advance purchase)
BTW The more posts I write on this thread makes me realise just what a strange family I have...................0 -
The Cardboard ones come ready assembled, which does make for storage problems.
My Mum was going to put hers in the loft, but then wondered what would happen if it got a bit damp and the bottom started to weaken.......... She did think that perhaps they could hold it over the grave and wait for her to fall out.... That way it could perhaps be handed down the family and used again:eek:
PS My Mother has a very strange sense of humour for someone in her 70's.............0 -
Anybody thinking of a wicker coffin, please consider your pall-bearers' comfort. My Ex helped to carry my grandmother's wicker coffin, and the ridges of the wicker weave really dug into his shoulder, he said it was very painful.:heartpuls Mrs Marleyboy :heartpuls
