One of my friends was buried at a Woodland cemetery some years back. The specifications were; no wearing black, no flowers, party in pub afterwards.

She was in a wicker coffin, drawn by a pair of grey horses on a farm wagon covered with Autumn foliage.

The service was Humanist, and it was a lovely occasion.

    Cheers, HG

My grandmother (who's in her mid-90s) is convinced that the 'good' coffins costing several hundred pounds and upwards are reused (i.e. not burnt) when the deceased is cremated.

She lost her daughter (my mother) recently, and even through her grief, this belief shone through. No expense was to be spared on the funeral, flowers, service, food, etc., but she tried to get us to cremate our mum in a cardboard coffin!

Thankfully we over-ruled her on this one :)

She, herself, wants putting out with the weekly bin collection when she kicks the bucket :)

Which coloured bin I wonder we have a choice of black, blue, brown, and green.
Life is like a bath, the longer you are in it the more wrinkly you become.
  • Great to see some retaillers finally daring to sell direct to the public... bravo to them.

My gran was cremated in a lovely wicker coffin. I need to look at some for when I pop my clogs

I also need to make my will soon, not that Ive anything to leave much but I do have distant relatives that could get a share of my savings plans when I want my brother to get anything I have if I die suddenly

    I wouldn't buy a coffin full stop.

My kids can sort all that out when the time comes.

I'll leave them enough money and they can chuck me in the river for all I care.

Hi Zaksmum I have no intention od purchasing and storing one for my self either. I would however purchase one for my other family members when the time comes. Don't much want to line the pockets of the funeral directors ...

Going to do that next month through will aid

My mums had a will for years and so did my gran

But my uncle died without a will and suddenly and it was only when my mum and I were talking, I have cousins of my mums who dont know me well, but if I died without leaving a will they could take their share of what I have and I also have a brother from my dads second marriage, I doubt that he would go after anything as Im sure he doesnt know I exist (long story)

But as I dont have kids, anything I have, and its not much, but theres a few pensions and some savings plans, if I died tomorrow, Id want it to go to my brother and my mum

And Ive made no plans as Ive thought, well Im not rich and Ive no money so whats the point

But I do have things tied up for the future that I want my brother to have in the event of anything happening to me, so I had better get it sorted and soon.

Like you I don't have much to leave, but I do want things to settled quickly and easily, so will lay out what little I have left in my will for those who are left behind :-)
