One thing I would say is that I would like to see a coffin that does not look like a coffin ! Something a bit more interesting and fun and a lot less looking like it's associated with death !

Could not agree more, but then I think the whole approach to how ceremonies are run could be refreshed to be a lot less depressing. Saying that a lot of the recent ones I have been to have been very much crafted by the families and much more enjoyable to attend.

Now I know I said I would like something that doesn't look like a coffin but I really like the 'eco pod'.

There is a picture and indication of the price here:
    "eco friendly technology.org slash other-eco-products slash eco-pod-coffin.html"

I had to rub my eyes though "arond £770" ... ouch !

I say, thats a nice modern take on a coffin, unfortunately the price is a bit on the steep side !

They say you learn something new every day..I've just learnt you can have a coffin cover! An eco coffin appeals(is that the right term) to me but doesn't look too good (like I'd be bothered) but you can get coffin covers that your choice of coffin goes into and gets used again and again cause you don't get buried in it or cremated in it your coffin slips into it like a sock!!
Life is like a bath, the longer you are in it the more wrinkly you become.

There are any number of coffins available that look like spaceships, guitars or what you will.

You don't need to be buried in a coffin you can be buried in a shroud - come to that you can be buried in your back garden.

But many people tend to go for safe 'known' options and there's nothing wrong with that.

When I buried my husband last year we did away with lots of the nonsense that he hated. No hearses, no mourners, no black clothes and in fact no guests just 5 family and a wicker coffin and flowers from the back garden.

So there are many ways you just have to choose the ones that suit you.

We had a 'wake' three months later for friends to share , cry and talk about my lovely man. He would have loved it free beer....
  • Sorry to hear of your loss... I think if people had time to think about their choices rather than being caught up in the grief of the moment then people would realise just how cheap you can actually do a funeral for... lord only knows we need all the pennies we can get our hands on in these hard times....

Think I'd rather have the free bar rather than all the trimmings - like your style ;-)
