It is interesting to see this more open approach (an invitations to 3rd party developers too) on this site. Instantly the flaws are evident: Are there really only 3 or 4 categories of crime altogether? The local newspapers can do better!
[ also it's rather obvious that traffic accident statistics, with fine detail such as involves pedestrians, cyclists, lorries, hit'n'run, etc, should be integrated ]0 -
Just had a look, I live in a 'nice' quiet cul de sac off a quiet cul de sac, around 30 properties and we had 2 antisocial behaviours in December.
I must be missing something.
My other point was that, nobody has commented on the 6 scripts running on such a simple page.
Obvious if you use NoScript.Move along, nothing to see.0 -
It seems to have been working nicely all of this afternoon and evening.
I note the crimes it reports is for just one month - December 2010. Will other months be added in due course, or will it be restricted to just one month?
As pointed out earlier, when the website went live there would be massive interest and loads of hits. It would be a waste of money to design the system to cope with this "once of" level of demand. However, not to design the website such that it does not fall over in a controlled manner when demand goes up is not very professional.
What would be nice is if you could click on the crime, and get a bit more info about it - e.g. was an arrest made, was the arrested convicted - then show other crimes committed by the convicted person. In fact, show where the convicted person lives, and a photo of them - that would really get the data protection/human rights lot wound up!0 -
Yes and show an image of the miscreant in the village stocks.0

so what is the problem??
if you look at the scripts you will note one is for the website (completely normal), 4 of them are google related (required because it uses google maps) and the other is amazons web platform (also fine)
other than that the site is working fine for me (firefox) , back botton is working too, but who uses the back button these days anyway? most tech people say the back button is pretty useless in modern web pages, you dont use it in gmail why do you need it here.0 -
Here's a much better version of the site, that was knocked up by a programmer in 1 day:
http://www.crimesearch.co.uk/
(drag the little red man on the left of the Google map to a place and you are in Street View)0 -

Interesting!
Although I love the disclaimer:
The data on this website is derived from public sector information, licenced under the Open Government Licence V1.0.
So basically, what that programmer is saying is that he took the current site and changed the way it's displayed, using the default Google maps locality symbols? You're spelling is effecting me so much. Im trying not to be phased by it but your all making me loose my mind on mass!! My head is loosing it's hair. I'm going to take myself off the electoral role like I should of done ages ago and move to the Caribean. I already brought my plane ticket, all be it a refundable 1.0 -
Actually he used the licensable API whose details are posted on the 'Police' site and made his site.0
