Well everyone wants to know how dodgy their area is. I think it will be used for people when they think of moving house, whether they bother getting that new car.

There were people on the radio this morning complaining that it would make it more difficult to sell their houses as "people could see how much crime there is in the area". :rotfl:

It's loading but nothing as to whether it will pick us my local coppers... Even though I live around the corner from it.

This has little to do with crime and more to do with insurance premiums and house prices.

I don't really understand how it benefit the ordinary punter.

There'll be an app in days to tell you where and when you're going to be mugged.

Possibly an aid to criminals who'll target areas with a low crime rate?

Oh and what's the outcome for business' who are in those high crime rate areas. Certainly not an incentive for prospective customers.

It works but... no stats on the time period over which the incidents occurred. So you don't know if it means 'x' incidents over the past.... week? month? year? who knows?

[ got it... in the month of December... which begs the question, how would you know what happened over a longer period? ]

Why would a criminal target low crime areas? They're probably low crime for a reason (better security, more police coverage, or just nothing worth stealing) so there's no reason to target them.

it wasn't the website 'freezing' the pc or browser.
That is a function of a poor browser, unable to handle a non-responding webserver.

Oh, and that was on a XP machine running 128 MB RAM
the difference? i was using a REAL browser

By your logic, people making car-seat covers should only make them to fit VWs, and tell the 79% of car owners who don't own a VW to "get a REAL car".

The fact remains that almost half of the world still uses IE (whether they want to or not), and it is foolish of a web design company not to ensure that their site works with the most popular browsers, especially THE most popular browser currently out there.

The flaws of IE are irrelevant in this case. What is relevant is its current market share.

I wouldn't be hiring you on my dev team with your attitude.
You're spelling is effecting me so much. Im trying not to be phased by it but your all making me loose my mind on mass!! My head is loosing it's hair. I'm going to take myself off the electoral role like I should of done ages ago and move to the Caribean. I already brought my plane ticket, all be it a refundable 1.

After finding the site was working earlier today (and possibly still is now many have got bored trying) I have found the results amazing - apparently there is a load of anti social behaviour, violent and other crime (explained as being shoplifting, drug dealing, etc.) around city centres, burglaries and car theft in the suburbs, and low in wooded areas apart from presumably defecation by bears.

I'd be interested to know what the £300k was spent on - it must have been more than just the web design which is just a google maps mashup based on data which they were presumably already collecting.

The "back" command is dodgy too
I think that we can safely say "a total waste of public funds" - but who is responsible ?
The present government will no doubt blame their predecessors !!
