No Buying Toiletries in February Challenge

p.s. mcculloch29, what is non-toiletry exfoliation? Sounds like a carpet burn! (oo-er missus :rotfl: ) Your weekend sounded fab, I love Edinburgh. Only been to Glasgow once for about 2 hours but it looks like a lovely city as well.
It's body brushing and using a body puff with ordinary shower gel rather than scrubby ones. I also use Silkymitts to sandpaper my legs.
Well, that's what it is.
Really I should save money by buying very fine grade sandpaper instead of Silkymitts. I bet someone, somewhere will have tried itErma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.0 -
Threw out 2 half used bottles of Herbal Essences shampoo and conditioner for dry/damaged hair - not sure why we even had it as no one has dry or damaged hair - and it made our hair look greasy!
Also binned a half used bottle of Avon detangling spray - its been ages since I've used this on the girls and it wouldnt get used if I hung onto it.
Snapped a worn down emery and chucked that.
Made a mental note to get rid of the HUGE bar of soap in the shower - I reckon its been there 6 months now and I think its starting to go off.
UU Treselle shower gel - WIBA? I love the smell, but can I justify buying that in a 150ml tube when the 500ml bottles offer much better value? Also, I have a problem with it being a clear gel - since I wear glasses all the time, I prefer a coloured shower gel so I can actually see it!!!
DD1 asked me if we had any hairspray so checked the stash and found the last two full cans of my HG shockwaves hairspray. Gave her one and put the other can behind the one I'm currently using in the bathroom.
Also checked the shampoo/conditioner status and it looks like I might have to do a shop soon. Got plenty of 2 in 1 shampoos which work great on my short hair, but need to get more in for the girls.
Spent some time with DD1 checking her make-up, creams etc. She didnt realise that the little "open pot" symbol with number inside was the shelf life once opened. She had several old opened mascaras and decided to chuck them all out except the one she's currently using and an unopened one. Also a pot of ponds cold cream that she's had for ages and recently realised is too oily for her skin type.
Looks like the makeup decluttering bug is catching :TXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX:wave:XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX0 -

Just checking in to say that I have got this far with only buying the toothepaste and shampoo mentioned earlier. But I did buy two packets of my hairdye in Mr T the other day. My roots really have to be done, not done since before Christmas! My dilemma is that I am due to visit the hairdressers tomorrow, treat with my eldest, and she said she had booked us in for streaks, or highlights, so will they be able to do that if I put my usual dye on today? (I should have done it earlier, but due to ill health, its not that easy anymore). Still have masses of stuff in every corner of the drawers, cupboards etc to keep me going for a lot longer then I care to admit! When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0

I am feeling triumphant that I have used up a tube of Olay Regenerist Cleanser Cream Wash. This was an exfoliater and cleanser in one which I got with one of the Boots vouchers probably a couple of years ago, it certainly seems as though it has hung around the bathroom for that long. WNBA as I prefer using the face cloths from the same range. It had got to the stage where I couldn't squeeze any more of the product out but I could see from the semi-opaque tube that there was plenty more left in and so I cut open the tube and used it up in the shower yesterday as a body exfoliater just to get shot of it.0

mcculloch29 wrote: »Boy, I have been so well-behaved this weekend.... went in to goodness knows how many shops in Glasgow and Edinburgh and made no purchases in toiletries whatsoever.
My friend got a hand lotion from Lush, too tired to think which one.
I did enjoy sniffing and spraying in Lush, though and so nearly broke my resolution with a solid body butter and tin. But I held firm.
One of the Lush perfumes puzzled me - Lust. I've never smelt anything that smelt more like cheap children's sweets. Calling it 'Lust' seemed downright inappropriate.
'Breath of God' in Lush was exactly like a lovely Irish perfume called Inis, that I used some years ago (when I had an Irish boyfriend)
Vanillary - sheesh, that's overpriced for a bogstandard vanilla. That's all it is, imo.
I did buy one small ish tote bag from the retail outlet at Gretna Green, but this was because I needed a sturdy bag for the coach to hold magazine, book, drink, travel sweets etc etc, and leave on coach so that my backpack was nice and light when shopping....
The only placcy bag I had on me was a mega-thin Heron one.:o
SJP - Welcome to little Immy! Happy, happy news.
The new wet and dry Hoover from Amazon Vine came yesterday :j and is sat in the kitchen, still in its box. Which is HUGE.
Judging by all the posts on here about lush stuff I'm glad my nearest shop is miles away. That said I did once buy something called Buffy something or other, it left my skin feeling nice but lasted about 5 minutes and was expensive imo. How do you ladies cope with the smell of the place, very overpowering, do you just get used to it?The devil makes works for idle hands0 -
am I the only one not to have been sent the Olay freebie?:(
uu sanctuary bady scrub mini from the Boots box offer last year WIBA...well it was ok but nothing special still another 20p in the pot with a bit of luck I will have enough to pay for my leg wax on friday.I get 20% discount plus have a £5 voucher so only need £7:).......don't really like waxing so only do it before hols...off to tenerife on March 3rd:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j
it will probably take me till then to pack as trying to reduce toiletries to bare min, working out just how much of anything I will use in 9 days is very time consuming:rotfl:told DH I will pack the joint stuff like sun creams, shampoo and toothpaste but think that the weight should come off our join allowence.Just about covered the toiletries and now have to start on the make up:rotfl:am taking the sanctuary spa perfume spray from the box not sure I like it but will do for a holiday and after last year when our case was openned and bag zip tag broken I do not want to put my expensive stuff in:(
I am doing very well for holidays this year as DH said he wanted to go to Portugal(our fav place) and use our Holiday Inn points to stay at our fav hotel that was taken over by HI last year.(are you still with me?)
well if we use 15,000 a night it is free but if we pay 5,000 points a night we only have to pay an extra £24 a night so we end up with more points left and a cheap night rate.I booked the flights last night:jhad to apy more than I wanted as his firm won't let him go on leave at the end of June  and one of his assistants has booked the 1st 2 weeks of July so going after that when flights cost more:(
STILL having said that I got them for £283 and the cost of a hire car is about £100 more!
I know I am a lucky lady getting two nice holidays but it is vital to get DH away as he is working too hard and am worried about his blood pressure esp after a man at church of the same age had a massive stroke recently:(DH may be away tonight so will have a pampering night but hope he is not because if he is he will miss a 2 pm meeting(phone) on tuesday and will have to do the 11pm one:eek::eek::eek:( he also worked half the weekend on paperwork:eek:)
sorry to ramble!
just heard Zoe Ball is on instead of Ken Bruce this week:(:(:(enough to make me switch to classic fm!!!0 -
FINALLY! I've been trying to use up my M&S Fallin' Leaves Body Lotion 100ml for ages, and for such a small bottle, it seemed almost bottomless!
WIBA? No. It smelled slightly masculine, and was only just one above that awful Next lotion I threw in the bin for being horribly greasy. This one wasn't, but you could tell that it was made out of similar stuff.
Next: Boots Fairtrade moisturiser 50ml.Please call me 'Pickle'

Not a UU but a pink candle Philosphy throw away. Boots no7 face tan - hated it, used it 3 times and just couldn't get on with it - far too greesy and not a good colour.
3 Kersitain (SP) INNs this weekend, shampoo, conditioner and blow dry cream - all free though !!New surname New start!

February appears to becoming my stock up month! First the Dove deos, now the too good to resist BS offer. Very practical ins though .....and I managed to resist any other temptations
4 large tubes of hemp hand protector, half price, plus £5 off code and cashback, so 4 x 100ml tubes for £13.20. One tube is for a friend,so that will be £5 recouped, therefore my 3 large tubes cost me £8.20 or an unbelievable £2.73 each (delivered) instead of £10 each.
Actually, by this, Bodyshop have "devalued" the worth of this product in my eyes. It was a product I was actually always prepared to pay the full £10 for , because it is so effective. I won't need to but it for a year now at least but there's no way in future I'd be paying anywhere near £10 for it now without feeling conned. Strange how perceptions can switch.
Ooh yes and an Olay serum freebie arrived today, I'd forgotten about, got one in DD's name as well.0
