Hello, you will have to forgive me if i have missed anything in the previous posts as i started to read them but i am trying to toilet train my 9 week old puppy and i aint getting very far with the thread as i have to keep stopping to check for accidents.
Anyway, MrJudi is on Orange, i think the package is 'Anytime 400'. He gets 400 minutes X networks and rarely texts, he does not go over this amount of minutes, so he doesnt need to increase the amount of minutes he has in the package. He wants to lower the cost of this, can you give me any idea as to how we go about it? I remember last year Carphone Warehouse sorted his price match and put him on a cheaper deal, but would like to know whats on offer this time before he tackles it. How do we find out which network offers what? His contract is due to renew this month, he was thinking of having the Sony Ericsson W800i as an upgrade, but wouldnt mind going for something with a higher spec. Also, what networks will Orange pricematch? I take it, its T mobile, Vodafone, o2. Do they pricematch with 3?
So many questions, but since i no very little about mobis, and my little PAYG gets £5 every month (if its lucky), i am in no position to offer advice. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Following your advise regards threating to cancel - I did an excercise with my O2 contract, i was offered 500tex, 200min for £25 plus a new 6230i nokia, which i was happy with (same deal £30 in previous year) With having some 'customer service issues' i tried vodafone to see if they could beat the deal - to my delight this is what was offered & now what i have subscribed to -
500 free tex, 200 free xnet mins free 6230i phone & free nokia (yes nokia) branded headset for £20 per month with free delivery next day!!!
This must be one of the best value 4 money contracts around!!0 -
I just want to say thank you so much for this post, Martin! I would never ever normally have had the courage to do this but I rang o2 & told them I was very unhappy with the package I was on because it seemed expensive for what I was actually getting. Before I could even finish they had offered me a brand new phone & hands free headset which they said the headset was worth £50. They also said they would double my texts & calls for three months & then give me £45 cashback on the fourth month which would go straight into my bank account!
They told me my new phone will be with my tomorrow morning!

What a lucky escape - not going with Just3G.co.uk - the mobile phone web forums are littered with customers ripped off by just3G.co.uk whose cashbacks were simply refused for no reason!klausington wrote:I've been with 3 since May this year and touch wood it's been absolutely fine - I would and do recommend to all of my friends. I live in SW London and reception has NEVER been a problem. I've been to places in the country where my friends are on Orange and have no reception but I have.
I have only ever had 2 dropped calls, when I was on the phone driving down the motorway (naughty!). A TINY bit annoying, but I am paying £48 for the year with 500mins and 100texts. So I'll get over it!
Customer services are in India and they don't always understand what you're saying which can be frustrating, but again, for £48 I don't care! Got my deal at e2Save and they price matched https://www.just3g.co.uk.
Already got part of the cash back back.0 -
Well....I was doubting Vodafone but they came through in the end
I spoke to them 2 days ago and asked what they could offer me, my contract is up Nov, Anytime 200(X net) and 50 texts, £30 a month...I'd had 9 months 1/2 price with a Nokia 6230. Anyway they offerd me a FREE upgrade to a 6020!...err...hang on isn't that a lesser model? Anyway after a nice chat to the lady she told me thats all they could offer.
....so I phoned to cancel and they first thing the guy asked was why? I explained how they'd offered me less than I had now, he said well ok if we can offer you what you want will you stay...Yes! I said. I told him i wanted a Samsung D600, 200 x net, 50 texts and 9 months 1/2 price line rental. He said straight away..No! He then said you need to email or write to cancel your contract...ok
Emailed them yesterday to cancel...phone call today, They offered to cancel my contract right away, meaning I didn't have to pay my last months line rental just my calls, and offered me a D600 Free, with 200 x net, 50 texts and 6 months 1/2 price line rental on a 12 month contract...nearly all are 18months with decent offers!. I thought about it for a while and agreed. It saves the hassle of paper work and number changing...direct debits etc...I know I could have probably squeezed more out of them but to be honest I hardly ever use 200 mins an 50 texts is about right!
So I'm happy again now :T0 -
This did work for me but then fell at the last hurdle
I was previously on orange, 120 mins for £25 with the student deal of 1000 free texts on top of that. I guess the abundance of text messages gor me into bad habbits because when it came to upgrade i needed a contract that wouls alllow me 500 txts or more. My contract was up on the 21st of October, so I rang up a couple of months before the last month to see about the availaility of the Sony Ericsson W800i- saves getting an mp3 player aswell!.
After numerous calls i was told that I could be offered the W800i for 19.99 and that my name was at the top of the list for recieveing the phone when it came in and to expect a phone back in the next 2 weeks.
2 and then 3 weks came and went and I was still waiting for my phoncall back. The end of my contract looming I rang orange a couple of times yesterday to see what was happening with my phone. Only to be told that it's availability was not known ... it could be available in the next few days or in the next 3 weeks. So after dooing my homework on the net I rang up to see what was the best deal I could get on the K750i would be. A step down from the W800i memory wise but if the deal was good enough i could have easily used the difference i saved to purchase a bigger memory card.
I was told that the best deal that i could be offered was the K750i at 19.99 or the 600i- yet another step down, for free.
When i enquire about the availability of the w800i once more I get told that orange will not be getting any more W800's untill christmas time.
When i asked why the best deal they could give me for the k750i was at twenty pounds for existing customers especially when i average 30+ on my bill each month. I was told that Orange was not in the Habit of Just giving things away
So changed my number to pay as you go.And purchasd the W800i on O2 for 4.99 on the student deal. Roll on Bt! Hurrah Hurrah

I'm on orange and my average bills are £35-40 - anyway rang to cancel last week in the hope of being offered a better deal - nope they just said "right thats been arranged". A friend of mine rang to cancel last week as well. His bills verage £30 and he was given a free motorola v3, and 500 xnet mins, 100 texts for £30 a month (£15 a month for first 6 months). I guess they dont like me0

I was on O2 deal with 400 x-net mins and 1000 texts for £45 (that was my previous average bill and got p910i for "free") decided to try blagging for upgrades - got bounced around but finally retention department said they could knock £15 off (their max discount) when I moaned she said they no longer offered that tariff but she could offer me sim free deal of 600 x-net, 1000 texts for £20 plus £50 cashback!!! (Don't ask, even she though it was daft!) when I queried being tied in for 12 months (and was only my first attempt at reducing) she said I would be "because it included cashback" - so.... if I don't take £50 am I tied in at all - Nope she says you can move, upgrade whatever, whenever - so thanks guys and gals - saving £25 a month for better deal
Now off to screw 'em for a phone I can convert to GPS unit
(I know p910i will do it but I want one wife can borrow and me still have phone)
God I love this site!!!0 -
I have just got onto your website and it has already paid dividends. I contact my provider O2 and managed to get a much beter deal at half the price for 12 months. I am sure others have done better but it was such a change from the normal response. I got from my old 200 minutes and 50 txts to 250 minutes and 500 txts and halved my monthly fee to £15.
Thanks Martin
ps have changed my calling landlines to Just dial and that appears to have been a smooth transition and good saving. :j0 -
I'm currently on a 200m x net contract for £25pm with O2 due to expire Nov, it was a osps 12m rent free deal and has not cost me a penny as a result, I'm pretty sure I could bargain for a better deal with O2 but what I really would like is another free phone and free contract but can't find anything similar on osps site at the moment does anyone know if such deals are still around, I have had a good experience with osps but am well aware of some of the horror stories but still happy to go back to them if I can get such a deal from them again.Four guns yet only one trigger prepare for a volley.Together we can make a difference.0
