Can any one help me work out how these tests are scored. the practice tests my child is doing are marked out of 80 but the ones on the AQE web site are marked out of 64. The final mark from AQE seems to be out of 140? I'm confused as to work out how he is doing at the minute!

    molly,

The real tests aren't actually marked out of 140. They are marked and then the results are standardised so that the average result is 100. Half the children will have scores higher than 100 and half lower in the real thing. I am not sure when they add on the extras to allow for age but I would have thought that came before the standardisation?

I would guess that to acheive the highest score possible you would need to get all the questions correct and have the greatest allowance for age. Please note, that is only a guess.

From memory kids scoring >80% in practise tests seem to do well in the real thing.

    Hi everyone,

I have been 'lurking' in the background reading all your posts - such a stressful time! I am now going through the process with my DD and was looking some advice on the best practice papers for the GL exam. Would like to do some practice tests with her over the summer but would like to use papers with same spec/format etc. Any recommendations - I have seen a few but am so confused :(

It's not very easy to judge. The way the marks are massaged in the actual tests makes it difficult to assess how well your child is doing from the practice.
Take an example; a child achieving marks in timed practice in the region of 88% to 100%, could end up with a test score of 118 out of 145 (real example).

The only guage you really have is to compare how well your child is doing compared to their peer group.

In a sense the test results are similar to an IQ score. If your child is doing better than the average of the others doing the practice, then that's encouraging.

Like most of the rest of you I'm awaiting with trepidation for the posties arrival Saturday next. Only 9 days, 1 hour, 30 minutes and 14 secs to go, but hey, how's counting.

Good luck to all of you and your respective guys and gals. Hope and pray all of you get the result you want.

Hi again, the wait is just unbearable. My daughter is convinced almost sure she has got the school she wants, she keeps asking me do I think she has, I say yes, but try and put it gently that its not a sure thing. I'm so nervous as she is just about the score to get in and no more, if going by last years results. A mark or 2 the other way might not help! Though we have special circumstances.

Honestly I must think about it at least 100 times a day, its awful.

The letter my son's friend got said Wallace and Friends were accepting down to 106 and applying the criteria to those applicants between 101 and 105
Hi Everyone. Finally took the plunge to post a comment. I've been gratefully reading all your worthwhile posts since February. I was really interested to read that your friend's son got a letter which gives us a glimpse of where Friends and Wallace are at, making their decisions. My ds has Wallace as one of his options and he got 102 in the AQE, so this bit of news has filled me equally with dread and hope. Just wish it was 28th May and we knew once and for all what school has accepted him. I really feel in 'no man's land' at the moment. Does anyone else feel the same?

Thank goodness this week has arrived. I just want to know the outcome, whatever it is, so I can get on and plan for September one way or another. Hope everyone's nerves are holding for Saturday!!

Hi Snojo, as usual I check on here about 10 times a day just to make sure I miss nothing! I am an obsessive freak at the mo, can't really think or concentrate on anything else. I wish it was this time Sat so we know and can celebrate or be positive even if they don't get the schools they want. This waiting is unbearable.
  • Contact your local sorting office and ask them to hold your post on Saturday - you should be abale to pick up your post from 8am onwards.
