ejones999 wrote:Stacey21 - does 21 indicate your age? You have already fallen out with Abbey Halifax and Lloyds Tsb do you ever stop to think just for one moment that the problem might be you!
I haven't 'fell out' with any bank at all, I have explained my reasons for not wanting an account with the above banks, but in case you haven't read the whole thread:
1)Abbey - reasons described above.
2) Lloyds, I work for them and don't want my personal a/c mixed up with work.
3) Halifax - declined an account with them as many people on this board seem to have been.
So no, it doesn't occur to me that the problem is me, unless wanting decent customer service from a bank where I am paying them lots of money to, is being a problem.:staradmin:staradmin:staradmin:staradmin:staradmin0 -
Stacey,
Have you had a look at a bank/financial search engine like moneysupermarket? It might advise you on the best student account given your circumstances and preferences. Even though you don't want to go through the banks you have stated, there are plenty others wanting your business!
Just to reiterate, I would certainly try to get to a branch as soon as you can, at least there you can maybe speak to one of the account managers/customer managers and explain your point of view rather than to someone in another country!
Good Luck!

Barclays
HSBC
Natwest
Co-op (although they run 'Smile')
HTH

Why are you paying them lots of money?
A student account is free (including overdraft) if you keep within your o/d facility.
You also say that you work for Lloyds but don't want to mix your student accounts with work - why do you need 2 a/cs? Why not just pay everything through one account?0 -
I must have a Lloyds TSB account to get my wages paid into (they stipulate this, being a bank and all
)
I usually just transfer my wages from Lloyds to Abbey when I get paid.:staradmin:staradmin:staradmin:staradmin:staradmin0 -
So why not have a student account with LTSB and keep your existing work account or just get personnel to pay your wages into a LTSB student account?0

I think the OP already stated that account conduct can have implications for her position with LTSB and as most students do incurr some debt, she maybe doesn't want to loose a source of income if her account conduct fell below the level set by her employers, which is fair enough, if she did fall into debt and had difficulty, she may be disciplined and in a worst case scenario, could be dismissed & her account/s closed. I can see why she would prefer to keep her student account elsewhere.£2 Coin Savers Club (Christmas)- £86£1 Jar (Christmas)- £29Christmas Vouchers Saved: £1450

I can confirm that halifax have had a review of their underwriting recently. Not sure what impact it has on student accounts as such, but it means that more current accounts will go through for thoese that were on borderline and failed
stacey21 - you work for a bank and expect a card to be ready in 2 days? come on they have to make it and post it !
I know what you mean about work thing. When i started at work the accounts could not have a staff indicator and a student indicator (as i was then graduate) at the same time0 -
What is it with people on this thread? Stacey21 came on here asking for advice and has been flamed.
She has already said that she has had an application for Halifax declined so that rules that out. She works for LloydsTSB and as a result doesn't want to do her banking with them. I completely understand. I'm an employee of a major bank as well and i wouldn't dream of running my main accounts through them (mainly due to the reasons the OP said and my employers decision to outsource jobs to the third world). I have my wages paid into one of their accounts but its transferred out straight away.
Stacey21 - i think a 7/10 day wait for a replacement card is par for the course to be fair. I waited 28 days for a replacement card from Natwest! The first two requests i made hadn't been dealt with! Luckily i have more than one account with them and just transferred some money into another account and used the debit card for that account instead.0 -
Thanks everyone, eventually got card and had all paperwork to do online banking etc too.
I guess it was just the lack of actual 'caring' of Abbey that annoyed me, to them you really are just a number and not a customer and it really grates me, because I see other banks treating their customers so much better :-):staradmin:staradmin:staradmin:staradmin:staradmin0
