Student A/C - Need to Move from Abbey

I am absolutely livid right now.
I lost my debit card last Friday and phoned Abbey straight away to let them know.
A week later - still no card.
Phoned up to see what was happening - (phoned complaints so I could speak to someone who understood me) and basically they couldnt care less.
I have been left without money for the last week and they just dont seem to care.
Going to move account. What is the best student account right now?
Need one with a large overdraft , and cant be with Abbey, Lloyds TSB or Halifax.
Any suggestions welcome

What don't you like about HSBC pavlovs_dog?0

abbey - call centres in India (nothing racist, just takes 15 minutes to give over my account number, no communication possible) have had fraud take place on my abbey account, they didnt seem to care one bit. now i have lost my card with them and a WEEK later i am still waiting, and they didnt seem the least bit bothered.
Lloyds TSB = i work with them and have to have an account to get my wages paid into. dont really want to have a student account with them as it is linked to my job and any charges/non 'responsible' use of your account can lead to disiplinary etc.
Halifax = applied for an account with them and got declined.:staradmin:staradmin:staradmin:staradmin:staradmin0 -
Surely you could have called at your nearest Abbey branch with ID to make a withdrawal over the counter?0

I'd say a card would take a week to 10 days - depending on post
I'd agree that you could of visited a branch with id - afterall, you did lose the card, not Abbey0 -
Well if you dont want to go with LTSB, Abbey or Halifax, you're left with either NatWest, HSBC, or Smile.
I'm with NatWest and can reccommend them as the online banking is easy to use, and they have a dedicated student team.
I have a normal current account with the Halifax and haven't come across any problems with their service, although if you were to successfully apply again you would only be able to get a £1000 overdraft until they could see you were using the account properly.
In this case, I'd open an account with NatWest and transfer my direct debits over, and run both accounts simultaneously: use the NW account for day-to-day banking and transfer my abbey overdraft into a savings account for a couple of months to get interest, then close the abbey account once I was sure everything was fine at NatWest.0 -
Most student offers are available to first year students only and some will be very suspicious of a second year request because we all know that the other bank account is in trouble.0

It's not the banks fault you lost your card.
All banks will allow you to withdraw money over the counter with valid ID.
Being a student i presume you will have either a passport, driving license, or valid student ID (uni card etc). The bank may also choose to ask you some questions on your account to confirm you are who you are.
Have you not thought of going into a branch.........0 -
Theres no branch near me that I can get to easily. I know my bank will get a card to you within 2 days so if one bank can do it I dont see why other banks are still wasting customers time of up to 10 days, I think that is ridiculous time to wait for a card. The same thing happened when there was fraud on my account - when it WASNT my fault.
A second year request to a bank does not mean the account is in trouble - it means the other bank isn't meeting the needs of the customer anymore and I am not happy with them?:staradmin:staradmin:staradmin:staradmin:staradmin0
