Student A/C - Need to Move from Abbey

They have to make your card and rely on royal mail - 2 days is a bit if a high expectation0

I know my bank will get a card to you within 2 days so if one bank can do it I dont see why other banks are still wasting customers time of up to 10 days, I think that is ridiculous time to wait for a card. The same thing happened when there was fraud on my account - when it WASNT my fault.
A second year request to a bank does not mean the account is in trouble - it means the other bank isn't meeting the needs of the customer anymore and I am not happy with them?
I wonder why you are not happy with them - won't they increase your overdraft again for you?
Ok you think that second year students applying for student a/c are not in trouble and that they are not trying to get a free o/d with another bank (without means to pay the first one off) fine but from my experience this applies to 99.99% of them, if you are the other 0.001% fine.0 -
Oh well, probably the OP is a bit 'economical with the actualité'.ejones999 wrote:I wonder why you are not happy with them - won't they increase your overdraft again for you?
After all, she lost her debit card 'last Friday' and this Friday (only four working days later) she complains already.0 -
Hi there,
I had my bag stolen a few years back and I had an Abbey cash card linked to my savings, it took over one month to get a replacement, although it was possible to do a telephone transfer of money from the Abbey to my HSBC account, it took 3 days but it did mean I wasn't left short for any length of time.
I'd be tempted to get to the nearest Abbey, withdraw the money you need for say, 2 weeks and put it in to your LTSB account on a temporary basis until your new card arrives, if it has been stolen, there may be additional security that Abbey needs to go through prior to sending out your card, also check at your home branch to ensure it has not gone there too.
If you are looking for a new account, why not pop into a branch where you'd think you'd like bank and ask if they can offer you any 2nd year deals.
BTW switching accounts in your 2nd year doesn't mean your acc is in trouble, I'm in the 2nd year and I switched my student acc at Halifax to Natwest, just because they could offer me a better deal. I only have a minimal overdraft (£300) and I wouldn't expect it to be increased to be honest! Many of my fellow students also switch banks because they are given inccentives too as well.£2 Coin Savers Club (Christmas)- £86£1 Jar (Christmas)- £29Christmas Vouchers Saved: £1450 -
But you are supposed to only have one student account. When transferring your a/c to Natwest did you actually close the Halifax a/c or is it still open?0

I closed it with no problems, was even encouraged to come back if I felt I wanted to!£2 Coin Savers Club (Christmas)- £86£1 Jar (Christmas)- £29Christmas Vouchers Saved: £1450

Wheres the need in the cheekiness/sarcasm? I asked for a bit of advice on this forum, not to get flamed.
For your information, no I haven't requested nor been declined an increase in my overdraft.
I am unhappy with Abbey because they
1) Have call centres in India which wastes my time and theirs as you can never understand what is being said and with the rise in identity theft of which the main cause is selling of details in India, I am wary of my account details benig accessed over there.
2) To Abbey, a customer is just a 'number', not a valued business opportunity to the bank. Banks should know by now that by recruiting a customer as a student firstly, that person is more likely to stay with that bank when they graduate, when they buy their home etc etc. Therefore most banks treat customers with respect when you try to communicate with them.
3) Adding to the above point, when I had fraud activity on my account, Abbey didn't seem concerned one bit about this, merely a case of 'Yeh well that happens, fill in the form and well see the circumstances' - yeh thanks Abbey!
4) A card for a current account shouldn't realistically take a week to be delivered if that current account is the only means of a customer having access to funds. Banks make enough money (and are certainly making enough out of me) to be able to not 'rely' on Royal Mail, and I know of customers with Lloyds who have rung at 4am on a Saturday morning and have a new card by Monday. That should be the norm, not the exception.
To be honest I asked for advice on the best student account that I could move to, not speculation on the reasons why or any suggestive comments about activity on my account to a relatively new person on this forum.

Friends phoning at 4am on a Saturday morning getting a card by following monday - absolute rubbish! Tuesday or Wednesday maybe even though some of their call centres are in India.
Stacey21 - does 21 indicate your age? You have already fallen out with Abbey Halifax and Lloyds Tsb do you ever stop to think just for one moment that the problem might be you!0 -
Wasn't a friend was a customer of the bank I work for - I seen the dates she reported it and she called in my department to let us know she had received it.:staradmin:staradmin:staradmin:staradmin:staradmin0
