Benefits of Being Registered Disabled

i have a blue badge, and find it strange that in many car parks it makes you exempt from parking fees. i understand being able to park closer to where you need to be is good...........but being disabled doesnt mean youre less able to pay the charge.
I think the reason many places allow those with a blue badge to park for free is because they may NEED to use a car, whilst others are choosing to use a car rather than walk, so the disabled shouldn't be financially punished for not being able to walk to places.0 -
Mobility problems? maybe they cannot stand for periods of time and refuse to use a wheelchair, just a thought.
I can't stand for long periods; but I am not unable to walk. It's just that if I stand for too long, my body goes into spasm. (which takes months to recover from and makes walking painful for the next week)i have a blue badge, and find it strange that in many car parks it makes you exempt from parking fees.
One group of people entitled to a blue badge are those with severe upper limb disabilities who regularly drive a car. They may not be able to operate the coin machine.Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked

Goffo, thats very harsh in assuming or even judging us on the basis that we are trying to increase our income, with one hand you have sympathy them the other you say we are taking advantage!
I wouldnt want myself or my son to have any type of disability, ever. If Alton Towers offer a service to allow people with carers and disabled people another fast route into the rides why wouldnt we take advantage? Thats increasing our income is it? If Alton Towers didnt provide that service we would queue up (with difficulty) like everybody else.
National Express offer 50% off their fares, train services offer cheaper tickets as do theatres, cinemas, concerts etc, swimming is cheaper, there are concessions for people in that position, why? because there is an inability to work and earn the amounts that a non disabled person can bring into a household. Why do disabled people get easier access into rides, theatrers etc? because they may not be able to queue up or stand etc I dont make the rules, I follow them. We have NOT DONE anything outside of receiving our entitled DLA, and are simply trying to maximise other advantages like the ones mentioned above.
Its a shame to see you never even asked me what we have and what we are trying to do and what my post referred to. I simply asked what else is available, where did I say I am trying to increase my income? I wouldnt wish what my son and I have on anybody, the struggles we face on a daily basis are our problem, god forbid anybody to go through this.
The first reply to my question answered my question as did many others.
Thank you very much.0 -

It may mean you have fewer options to avoid the charge, though. I almost never pay parking fees: I more often walk/cycle to get places and would much use public transport to places like central London rather than pay high parking fees. Some disabled people wouldn't have these choices, though.0 -

I don't often agree with Goffo but your first post did actually come over the way he said, which may be why you didn't get a very good response.0 -
It is the first time I registered and posted simply to ask a question about what is available, I must admit I read and re-read my post and without creating any further animosity I feel that all I asked is 'what can we get' by being in receipt of DLA. Perhaps I maybe misinterpreted, and I can only apologise for that, but genuinely I didnt mean any harm. I feel Goffo perhaps read it wrong!
Sorry for continuing any debates, the main point here is to provide info to others and give info to others.0 -
'what can we get'
No offence meant to you, but that line just sums up why this country is 900 billion in debt and climbing.
http://www.debtbombshell.com/
This is the attitude that prevails now, many millions of people grabbing what they can, and taking, taking, taking.
Until there is a return to 'what don't I need ? and 'what can I do for myself' then the debt will continue to rise until we go bust and have to be saved by Germany, France and the rest.0 -
what on earth does jumping the queue at Alton Towers have to do with a disability?
My son is autistic and finds queuing impossible. If we were not able to 'jump the queue' he simply wouldn't cope with a visit to one of these parks. It is hard enough for him even with that concession. My husband is an amputee with very bad arthritis and again, he simple couldn't queue for more than a few minutes without being in severe pain.GC 2023 June £72/500 NSDs 1/100 -

Many disabled people also find they need someone with them - this obviously costs more. I have to attend a college in Exeter. To get there and cope in college, I need to go by train and bring someone with me.Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked
