I have a problem

I can believe that the thermals would help, but do factor in the extra time required to get 'back to basics' as it were.
as for tampons, please use with caution! there is surely a risk of TSS.
I also thought that advice was NOT to try to stop the flow every time, as this can cause problems in itself.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -

I was told that stopping the flow could potentially lead to problems if urine backtracks as it could cause kidney problems.Lost my soulmate so life is empty.
I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -

Well I CANT stop the flow anytime, so no worries there!!
Never thought about TSS syndrome, but thats a very valid point.
Might just see what effect the medication has, after all you just cope with it anyway really!
Wear thermals a lot anyway, coz I don't think I've been warm for MONTHS!!
Roll on spring/summer!0 -

I don't know if anyone has tried this http://www.stressnomore.co.uk/pd/Contrelle-Activeguard_80868.html?gclid=CIOez6fEs6cCFcod4QodJTglAg
or similar products. I was told to try the tampon and if it worked it would be worth trying the above. The first time I tried the tampon it worked a treat, they said to wet it slightly to make it damp so it swelled up. I could jump up and down and used it to go to the gym and had no problem with leaking. The next time it didn't work at all so I am wary about buying the above. Obviously the tampon shouldn't be left in, it is something that might work for some people if for instance they had a dance, or sport to go to but the Activeguard can be left in all day seemingly.
As for stopping the flow, yes I was told to do it now and again so mixed advice there but I have no chance of doing so, once I start to go it's impossible to stop and I can't remember a time when I have been able to.0 -
Bettie,
Thanks for the tampon trick, as I've never tried it, but will be doing so. Funnily enough I have noticed that the problem got worse once my need to use tampons grew less and less frequent!
It gets worse after menopause .
Don't recall really having much problems during my periods at all!
Don't know why I didn't make a link, and am now wondering if the tampon acts in a similar way to the cones they give you to aid pelvic floor exercises?
See my other post about the Activeguard. The cones build up the muscles, similar to exercise or the electronic pelvic floor toners. I have a toner and it made a tremendous difference to the strength of my pelvic floor muscles but not a lot of difference to my pattern of leakage. I did the exercises for many years and my pelvic floor was still very weak. I tend to do them at work, now and again and use the toner once or twice a week. I think if I didn't it would have got a lot worse.

Yes Betty, she said it is definitely (mainly stress incontinence), since it first began with a very difficult pregnancy and labour 23 years ago! Had stress incontinence during the pregnancy so bad that when my waters broke, I didn't realise until the next day, and thought the incontinence was just getting worse! This was mainly because all the books said that waters = 'slow steady trickle' or 'sudden gush'. The baby's head position meant that the waters were just leaking, rather than coming all at once!
But because of the diabetes, she thinks there is also some degree of an over-active bladder and maybe some urge incontinence mixed in amongst it! I can go long periods without needing to go, (and I mean hours if I'm working etc,) but once the thought enters my head, my need becomes instant!)
poor thing, you have a mixture of things to contend with. On my toner there is a program that deals with stress AND urge incontinence. At the incontinence clinic they will let you try it out. I never went through my doctor, just phoned them up and made an appointment. They made sure I was doing the exercises correctly, all a bit embarrassing but I did find out I was doing them wrong so wasted years of pulling up the wrong muscles:o
She thinks the tablets will help, along with the diabetes medication to stabilize blood sugars, but says she can't rule out the possibility of surgery further on down the line. I've also got to do the pelvic floor exercises, but struggle with this side of it, because I have been doing them (several times a day, and every time I wee) for 23 years now!! And I try really hard to stop it mid-flow - but NO CHANCE!!!
I know several people that have had surgery with great success and I've also read horror stories about it so it is a big step and I hope to be able to stay as I am, time will tell. I have no problem unless I run, jump or haven't had a wee for a while and go for a long walk, half way I am looking for a toilet or I am in trouble :eek:0 -
I had the surgery about 15yrs ago and had a perfect result, it was done with keyhole surgery and I have never had a problem since . I was having problems at work in my very physical job and told my GP that I was almost at the point of quitting it was so bad and after trying a couple of other things he referred me for the surgery. It was quick simple and very effective..#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

I had surgery 3 years ago (TOT procedure) and also had a perfect result -I'm not exaggerating when I say it has given me my life back! I used to love hiking and had given up on it as even the thickest of pads were soaked well before we reached the first loo stop. Sitting in meetings at work was a nightmare as I knew that when I got up there would be a problem
My gynaecologist told to me to spread the word to all my friends that there are things that can be done for these problems – not all cases can be fixed by surgery but there is various help out there so don’t suffer in silence!
I started Zumba classes in January and really enjoy them – but it’s not something I would have considered even trying before I was ‘fixed’.If swimming is good for your figure, can someone please explain whales?0
