If you get a seagate or maxtor drive you could use maxblast (free from their website) to do the disk image, western digital have a free version of acronis trueimage SE for their drives, for other brands you can use macrium reflect free. As you are doing already, keep a second or third copy of important docs on cd/dvd - dvd's hold more if you have a dvd writer.

that was the only itunes related change, but it should work without.

You might want to update to service pack 3 you seem to still be on SP2, to put it mildly its a little out of date. Run MS update damn you!
