  • Good morning everyone :)

I'd like to join in please! OH and I kept track of nearly all of the shopping and think that we can cut it down a bit. So, can you put me down for £200 in February, for 2 adults and 2 children (including all packed lunches, cleaning stuff and nappies)

    Thanks, SGTG x

  • I'm been a lurker for the last 3 months but I've decided to come out and start posting!

My monthly budget is £200 a month. This amount covers all groceries. It's just DH and I and i hope to be reducing this as I go along. I shop online with sainsburys and it's free delivery if I spend £40 or more.

I need to do more mealplanning. DH is funny, he hates the idea of meal planning, wants meals to be more spontaneous:) but he doesn't notice if he has fish and chips every thursday!!! so as long I don't stick the plan on the fridge I'm good.

My aim is to use the money I save from the budget to top up at Xmas.

    Wish me luck!!

    Hi Everyone,

Well I've had a rethink. Can you please put me down for £200 this month. I think that this will be a challenge, but it is definitely do-able. This will include food, toiletries, cleaning products, pull up pants.
I am starting the month with a lot of food (although with the diet that I'm on, I can't eat much of it!), I also have 3-4 packs of pull up pants so may not need to buy any this month. I am determined to stay within budget this month, as last month's total was ridiculous (£241.90/£125)!

Good Luck Everyone. Here's to a thrifty Feb!

A very cheap and cheerful suggestion would be to make it into Toad in the hole, Nigella rolls small balls of sausage meat, and bakes them then pours batter around them, instead of sausages, it makes the meat go further, and it feels as though you are having more 'toad' and less 'hole' V nice with wedges and onion gravy :)

Hiya Hippeeechiq :) and also to others who have welcomed me :) yes I agree about the khicheri and have made a giant batch to suit our appetites :D

Yeah! I have a packet of sausagemeat lurking in the freezer too!. Thanks Weezl xx

My Mr A delivery was £79.05 but I had run out of any other meat then the sausagemeat, and if there is no meat in the meal my son is not a happy! and I still find it strange. But will cope.
Now I must get the menu planning back on track, and make this last as long as possible.
(this also includes my toiletries and cleaning products).
When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.
  • I am pretty sure I will be over this month. But I won't beat myself up, it is only my first month back on the challenge.

I made some lovely pie last night made from leftover pork and ham. They went down very well. I am making roast chicken, rice and salad tonight. I am at home with sick kids, so I plan to bake some Twink's hobnobs and a cake for dessert. If my shopping trolley arrives, I am going to pick up some bits. I did manage a NSD on Sunday.

The meat from the online butcher I found has been very good. I will definitely order a bit more next month. My stocking up this month will reduce March's budget.

  • Hi all,

Looking to get back into the GC to help pay off the overdraft I built up last summer (due to flat move and car demise!).

Could I please go down for £100 for February .

I should manage this ok as it's a 4 week month, and store cupboard is pretty good at the moment.

Less than £10 spent so far, am resisting that 'urge to splurge' that payday brings! :rotfl:

Hiya I used to do the grocery challenge a long while ago and got to a place I was happy but it has slipped massively and I need to reign it in a bit. Budget for most months should be £250 but OH was not paid much this month (he had some unpaid leave and no overtime) and since its a short month and we already have loads in I'm going to be aiming for £200 this month. Now my OH works nights so isn't here for dinner so it should be quite easy just feeding the kids but I have to include baby milk and nappies in my budget. Although I probably have enough nappies for this month still stockpiled from when he was born lol.
