Just read about that chicken sweetcorn soup and thought it would be nice to have the recipe
Good idea on the shower caps Mothership! I might try this weekend again, I don't understand my oven and my last attempts were disasters. I managed to do a nice Lemon madeira cake yesterday, which turned out good but was ready 20-30min before my recipe said, even though I put the exact temperature they said. Idk. I think it is the assisted fan that overcooks the outside quickly and the inside is still undercooked. Idk if it would be better to put a lower temperature and leave it for longer or try to cover it so the outside does not burn and the inside keeps cooking. Anyone out there has a fan assisted combi oven?Quit smoking *1st January 2010*

anyone seen any good offers on eggs? scrambled egg seems to be the in thing at the mo and using about a dozen a day  & thats making a huge dent in the budget.
Costco eggs are 6p each which is the cheapest I've been able to source anywhere. Do you have a local store?
Thank you to Mrs M for popping me on the list, and woweee! To your big success with healthy eating:beer:
We stocked up on more of the cheap pasta today, £16.60 is now my running total. I think it's the best price it's been these last 3 years I've been keeping records, so I'm glad a few items are helping out with food price inflation

Don't keep too well myself which isn't helping. I'm really glad to be able to escape to here now and again, it really helps. So thank you all of you for all your posts reading them takes my mind off things. Got my wee 5 month old grand daughter tomorrow for the day to give her mum a wee rest. So roll on tomorrow.
Too cold for the garden so... There's only one thing for it COOK!
I popped out for bread flour, yeast , milk, macaroni, cream and managed to spend £10 from my GC Feb budget.
Came down to have a wee look through the recipe's to see if I could find a nice one for bread. Not made bread for years (used to do it all the time) till I stuffed my (proving place full of groceries). Then I read on here that someone puts a plastic shower cap over the bowl to prove the bread, I got loads of those (I do B&B they don't get used much, about 4 in 9 yrs).
Over the radiator in the kitchen would be a great place for proving, if I put the covered bowl in a bag and hang it there, it should work.
If anyone wants a disposable shower cap to try it PM me and I will send you some. I helped with a mail shot recently and got loads of stamps left over as a reward.
Sorry to hear that life is tough and you sound a wee bit down. You always have company here if you feel like a chat. Life is rough sometimes but as you know we always come out the other end though battered we may be. We all enjoy your posts here so I am sending you sincere regards and prayers.

Fan Assisted Oven - I always turn the temp down by 20, ie if the cooking instructions say 30 mins at 200, I cook at 180 and check after 20-25 mins - HTH

Please can I put a target of £200? No change from last month's target, which we went over (need to add up the final bits later) BUT I had an idea for an experiment. Since I know exactly how much we have spent in a month buying everything from T*sco, I am going to try and buy meat, fish, eggs, veg and fruit from the shops in the market or the greengrocer down the road, and only what I have to at the supermarket. Then I can actually make a comparison... And since we didn't buy anything in January till the 6th, I can't claim Feb will only be cheaper as it's a shorter month!“Obstacles are those frightful things you see when you take your eyes off your goals.”
