  • My total for FEB '11 is £249.64/250!! I'm on budget wohoo :j I actually put back £5 worth of stuff i had picked up on saturday as i knew it would take me over budget...haha how sad am I :p

It's just a shame i didn't make budget for clothes or 'miscellaneous' (meaning things i don't really need AT ALL!!) I wonder if there is one of these threads for each area of my budget, if i know other people are paying attention i might not spend all my saved grocery money on rubbish elsewhere :rotfl:

I would like to stick to my budget of £250 for March as it is a longer month for me by nearly a week and i'm not sure i will make it if i cut it anymore right now

Was'nt planning to spend anything today but....... :rotfl: well I decided to get some more of the porridge oats while the were on 3 4 2 and today was the last day. Only brought these though costing £1.50 Have 6 bags in stock now so should last as there is only me that eats it as porridge and have to be careful when adding it to stews etc as DH and DS would instantly say the food tasted funny. What they dont know dont hurt them.

Final total is £223.19 out of a budget of £250 meaning an underspend of £26.81 :rotfl:Well pleased at this.

So the annual amount is standing at £400.31 out of £3000 meaning I have almost £100 in my favour as it works out as £250 each month. :T

Have loads in the freezer as well so fingers crossed for March.

Good luck everyone - let battle commence!
    MARCH £62.38/250

    Grocery Challenge for October: £135/£200

    NSD Challenge: October 0/14
  • Went a bit over this month, mainly due to buying extras when I had visitors. Also I've run my stores down a bit, so had to buy a few more basics than I had been.

So, the end result was £70.24 . Had started with £61.50, so £8.74 overspent. But not too bad when I look back at my pre-GC records - I was spending £180 per month on average for two of us then, so £90 per head. That means that even though over budget, I'm saving about a fiver a week now, or, if I keep it up, £250 a year.
Keeping two cats and myself on a small budget, and enjoying life while we're at it!

Woohoo - realise I've been MIA from this thread for most of this month but just totted up my totals for February including stuff bought today and I come in at £338.50 - a HUGE £1.50 within budget :rotfl:

I know all you good girls and boys are doing far better than I am but this does include FOUR - count 'em - FOUR "takeaways" where I bought the food at the supermarkets and heated it up rather than going to the Indian takeaway every Friday.

It may not sound very brilliant but I take a Mr Micawber view on this - "Annual income twenty pounds, annual expenditure nineteen pounds nineteen and six, result happiness. Annual income twenty pounds, annual expenditure twenty pounds ought and six, result misery."

So I am very happy to have my £1.50 (which is probably about the modern-day equivalent of 6d, isn't it?!).

Thanks to everyone on this thread - I haven't posted this month much but I have lurked, and it's true that belonging to a group of like-minded people does keep you focussed when being tempted by Messrs Tesco et al!

Onwards and upwards - March next. Off to update my signature.

Well done to all who've kept in budget and better luck next time to those who've had unforeseen thingies :T
  • just declaring my final total after a quick recky at receipts £117.46/£125 so well chuffed ,though my household is down by one as had to have my !!!!! cat put to sleep at weekend ..(old age and lost marbles ..

The no smoking is going great - 10 days smoke free! Had a girly night  & :EasterBunat a friend's house on Sat and NO SMOKING! Feels great! :j:T

This apple cinammon cake is really easy to make and tastes yum!

    APPLE CINAMMON CAKE -

    8oz soft margarine
    8oz brown sugar
    3 eggs
    4oz walnuts (chopped)
    4oz sultanas
    8oz SR flour
    2tsp baking powder
14oz apples (peeled, cored and grated)
    1tsp cinammon

Oven 180C/350F/Gas4. Grease and line 9" deep cake tin.
Mix marg, sugar, eggs, walnuts, sultanas, flour and baking powder together until thoroughly blended.
Put half mixture in cake tin, then grated apple, sprinkle cinammon, then rest of mixture. You can sprinkle with more sugar and walnuts on top if you want.
Bake for about 1quarter-1half hours or until well risen and golden brown.

Delicious cut in wedges with or without custard/cream/ice cream! :D
Thank you very much for that Janie :) Waiting for my cooker to be fixed at the moment, but I've copied it to my list of recipes to try once it's back in action.

Very well done on the not smoking :T 10 days! That's a fantastic achievement! I found the first day ok, the 2nd and 3rd I could've ripped somones head off :D Day 4-7 just working out what to do with my hands, and working out how to distract myself from wanting one first thing in the morning, while drinking a cuppa, after eating a meal and especially when having an alcoholic drink. After I had that sussed, it all fell into place.

It does make you feel good about yourself, I have to say. I gave up in October 2006 (and my OH and DD still smoke) Stubbed my last ciggie out that morning, and haven't had so much as a puff since. So YOU can do it too :)
