HYC/Help Your Claim - dodgy sounding cold callers 0161 8505451

I had a cold call from these people yesterday. Gabbled on nineteen to the dozen and sounded quite upset when I asked him to repeat 'who was calling' - seemed almost incredulous that I did not know who HYC were!
When he told me it was a company dealing in PPI claims I said that I had never had any PPI so it was not for me. At that he became more than simply angered, the inflective in his voice when he scaccatoed out " How do you know you've never had PPI insurance - you don't know if you have PPI" showed an almost apoplectic anger. I simply said that I was not going to be spoken to like that, with that tone of voice and promptly cut him off!
I know very well that I have never had/paid for any PPI - that individual should realise that there are still some of us out there who either do not take credit plans, check very carefully the small print if there is a good 0% plan and check what charges there are, if any by any Bank, Building Society or any other money provider.

Don't want to resurrect something but this thread is still top on Google when you enter 'HYC PPI'. This total **** company rang me on my work phone about private PPI that I never had and started reading some poorly worded script off down the phone, when I tried to interrupt and explain I wasn't interested I heard all kinds of excuses as to why it did affect me and she would then talk louder over me and carry on.

I rang back to get my number removed and got this utter tosspot on the phone who was rude, loud and convinced he was doing everyone a service that we should be grateful to be rang by them and that my number (a business number) was acquired on a 'secure database'.

I cannot believe in this day and age we have no protection against people/companies like this, the TPS does nothing to help other than the semi-legit companies of which this one is not and therefore they just ignore it.

They rang from 01204 238003 and it accepts incoming calls to their call centre/zoo.

I suggest you complain to consumer@claimsregulation.gov.uk

They are pretty useless so make sure you copy you MP in.
  • Also called today from 01204 238003

Rejected call at first as I'm plagued by things but they called back straight away so answered and got a similar story.

Asked him where he got my number, he said the banks. what banks? all of them he says. He claimed I must have had a loan and when I said I didn't he hung up.

I called back and got a girl who claimed there must be a glitch in the system and thats why my number was called.

I could really have some fun with this... Mr Anwar?
  • Received a call from these HYC jokers today. The guy was trying to say I had taken out PPI before - which I have never done. When I asked him where he got my number, he tried to say it was 'on a database because I had previously had PPI. Wrong - I've never had PPI and this is a new mobile number I have. So he was talking absolute crap. As another poster said, they make it up as they go along.

The guy kept shouting at me and got really aggressive. Its unbelievable that the Government don't or can't seem to do anything about these parasite scavengers that are making life miserable for people and invading our privacy.

    His number was 0161 741 4000

    Cheers.
  • Had my first call from these jokers at lunch time today. A 100 mph one-way monologue from a woman called Kristina who tried to get my details from me. I winkled out of it but the calls keep coming. Have tried to block them on my mobile but they just use a different outgoing number each time. No way are they ever going to get my business but their persistence is annoying. Hopefully, they'll get the message and get lost!
  • Report it to the ICO here
Report it to the claims regulator at consumer@claimsregulation.gov.uk
  • Just had a call from this organisation and like previous posts I querried how they got my details. Again not convinced by what was said but the underlying question for me is how do they know I am the person with this alleged PPI owing - people do have the same names don't they. Can anyone advise or, is the nature of the call purely speculative and the figure quoted to me as owing simply made up?

You can tell when they are lying.

    It's when their lips move.

There is no detail about what PPI you may or may not had in the public domain. Any company that says they have details on you is telling lies or has fraudulently obtained the information. Some claims companies have been buying details on the land registry and cold calling people from that. Land registry would show the name of any lender with a secured loan. So, the best they would know there is name, address and the name of the lender.
