  • Don`t forget that you may need to register as Self Employed regarding this income - this can work to your advantage as if you work 16 hours (with children) or 30 hours (without) you can then claim tax credits. Many people are now working their 16 hours cleaning or ironing..
I have had brain surgery - sorry if I am a little confused sometimes ;)

I used to iron for my sisters care business for ladies who was incapable (disability) of not doing it them selves, I used to get paid £5 per hour.

Like the idea of ironing and saving up for Kenya, Good luck with your worth while venture - I was posted out there for 3months when I was in the Army - could tell you a few stories!!!!

However - my friend has just set up her own laundry business, and she charges £1 per 1lb in weight. She invested in one of those pully weigh measure things (dont no what they are called - sorry). She is doing really well.

You cant really charge per hour, as some people work at different speeds, so either charge per item, or by weight.

    £10 / basket, or £15 / basket for local colleciton / delivery.
Have been told that's pretty cheap!
  • When we both worked full time about 6 years ago (before our little boy arrived) we had a local laundry service that would collect, iron and deliver your stuff. Shirts would come back on hangers with plastic covers. THe shirts were £1 each and the bedding, t.shirts etc were a pound per pound in weight, cost us about 25 quid per week. Money well spent when you are short of time but have the cash. Now I'm short of cash and do my ironing in the evening when I watch Come Dine With Me :)

A friend irons for me - charges me £6 an hour - I usually get it done every other week and it amounts to around £20 a time. She also de-furs everything - my cats drive OH mad!!!

She charges £7 ph to others! Nice quick service and no horrid ironing to do in my very limited free time!!!! Means I can go geocaching more often!!
