  • I love ironing I have one of those steam generator irons with the big tank. Makes ironing really easy and so quick.
  • i charge £5 for a standard washing machine load(me thinks im to cheep after reading your posts) how ever the lady i do it for then asked me if i would do cleaning for her one day a week for 5 hours at the rate of £7 per hour so it makes up for the bargain ironing .

I wish you lived near me!! I got really behind with my ironing a few months ago and rang up a local ironing service, who collected a black bin bag full of ironing (mostly T-shirts, blouses and trousers) and when it came back the bill was £104:eek: I was in shock!

    what ?!!!

When i worked for an ironing company about 3 years a go now i was paid £5.00 hourly. Had to work fast though. Would have been much better to have been paid per item of clothing. I think £7.50 is about right for an hours hard work.

I am charged £15 for 30 items. Some items such as bedding, sheets, tablecloths are classed as 3 or 4 items.
  • I pay about £8-£10 for a basket of folded washing. Occasionally if I have been on hols etc then it goes up to £15, but the average I pay per week for a family of 5 is £8. I drop my washing off and collect it -as this bumps up the cost I find.

I also pay £10 per hr for cleaning (£30 each fornight). It should be £8 per hr but she comes out specially just for me and has to travel, but she is good so worth it. I used to have Molly Maids and they charged almost £60 per fortnight -so I have saved a bit -although hardly 'money saving' it is very 'time saving'!! (and I work full time with 3 kiddies)

  • I researched this recently as I was setting up an online ironing directory after I found that people struggled to find people to do their ironing.

And what found was that it very much varies from area to area in the UK and that the majority of people are now charging per item with varying amounts according to whether items are childrens' clothing or adult clothing.

Some people were saying just small, medium and large items and costing them out per item other were saying specifically adult & children up to a certain age!

Personally I would say you should be charging £15 per basket (not bin bag!) particularly as it is for such a worthwhile cause!

And I hope I am not breaking the rules, but if anyone does do ironing and would like a free listing please visit https://www.wedoironing.com and add yourselves. It was designed for people who are offering ironing from home, but can't afford to advertise in expensive publications. So I hope it is ok for me to plug it!

i pay 50p per item 60p if its a large one. i would consider charging per item as people who only want to send a few shirts etc can and are not stuck with having to pay for a basket full.

you could charge per weight of the bags. so much per kg. This will take into account people who want only a few things done and also the time it takes to do larger items
