Why not send a PM to iwanttosave - I'm sure I remember her saying that she runs a home ironing business.

Were you someone who hated ironing and then got the iron which made you love it? What brand is it? I paid my cleaner £5 an hour to do ironing, very cheap, but it took her 40 minutes to do one shirt, so not the most efficient. I would love to have someone come and get a basket of clothes and iron them for £15.0 -
I have a man who picks up my ironing in a big bag on a friday night and returns it on monday night. i pay £25 for about 50 items +.0

welshnoonoo wrote:I researched this recently as I was setting up an online ironing directory after I found that people struggled to find people to do their ironing.
And what found was that it very much varies from area to area in the UK and that the majority of people are now charging per item with varying amounts according to whether items are childrens' clothing or adult clothing.
Some people were saying just small, medium and large items and costing them out per item other were saying specifically adult & children up to a certain age!
Personally I would say you should be charging £15 per basket (not bin bag!) particularly as it is for such a worthwhile cause!
And I hope I am not breaking the rules, but if anyone does do ironing and would like a free listing please visit www.wedoironing.com and add yourselves. It was designed for people who are offering ironing from home, but can't afford to advertise in expensive publications. So I hope it is ok for me to plug it!
Thanks welshnoonoo
I've been thinking about offering ironing services for a while now, this has given me the pust to do it! And you are my first port of call!
I live in Surrey, a quick wizz around of local info has helped & I'm setting my prices as follows :
Shirts plus anything bigger than a bath towel £1.50 each
All other items £1 each.
Local collection/delivery by prior arrangement at £1 per mile, otherwise free drop off/collection.
72 hour turn around, faster by arrangment.
Cash on collection/delivery.
Will also print off some flyers then wait & see what happens!
Cheers;)

I'd make it spin out if I was getting a fiver an hour - it would take me a couple of days to do a basketful!0 -
Most local Ironing Services near me (there are a lot) charge by the bag or kilo. When I say bag it's their bag so someone can't send a supersize bag in for the same price as a carrier.
From one site
10 kg or less £20.00
11 kg £22.00
12 kg £24.00
13 kg £26.00
14 kg £28.00
15 kg £30.00
I think this is one of the more expensive ones. Never used them myself, yet! Good luck, I hate ironingOne day I might be more organised...........
GC: £200
Slinkies target 2018 - another 70lb off (half way to what the NHS says) so far 25lb0 -
I used to pay £12 for 20 items, large stuff like double sheets/duvet covers counted as two items. This was about a year ago. I now don't iron if I can help it. I only do shirts and uniforms and stuff that really needs it. everything else gets folded heatly and put away. So am saving £12 a week. The local ironing shop advertises 20 items for £15 or 50 for £30.
I have a steam generator iron and would not be without it. It makes the small amount of ironing I do do much quicker.0 -

lol I was wondering if my name would come up. :rotfl:
Right, prices, I can do about 40-50 items in an hour, and I charge £10 per basket (£2.50 discount for OAPs/infirm), reguardless of how full or empty it is, that way the client knows how much they will be charged, they feel in charge, and they wont get a bloody big shock like the person above.
Kids clothes and bedding are the easiest things to iron (although I can do shirts in just over a minute) so if you get a besket full of bedding you can do it in about 20 mins, tenner for that amount of work isnt bad.
Work is thin on the ground at the mo, and is up until about end of January because of xmas, but in summer I am jam packed and earn about £100 a day for a few hours work.
I wouldnt bother with a steam generator, I have tried them, and dont rate them at all, once you get good at ironing, you really dont need one. Try and track down a place you can get wire coat hangers, or get customer to supply their own. I also use polythene bags for sending them back.
Hang
Shirts, trousers, skirts, jumpers/long sleeved tops, and ladies fashion tops.
Fold
T-shirts, kids clothes if under the age of 4, bedding, underwear, towels.
I can;t belive how much you lot pay to have your ironing done  I would rather do it myself :rotfl:Work like you don't need money,Love like you've never been hurt,And dance like no one's watchingSave the cheerleader, save the world!0
