As per my earlier post, I would like to know if capping is possible? A simple yes or no is all i require.
They won't answer you on here. Vodafone never do. The post you got is from someone who is a small cog in their PR machine.
Guide to ALL Vodafone's MSE posts:
Dear <username>
I'm disappointed/I'm sorry/I understand you have had problems with <whatever problem it is>.
I would like to look at this further for you/investigate this matter/see what we can do for you.
Please email us and include WRT135 in the subject line and one of our team will pretend to care/tell you what you already know/try to blag it until you go away/laugh behind your back and tell you it's tough.
And there you have a Vodafone post. I am starting to feel insulted the way they put these generic pretend-to-care notes on this forum and never do anything in public that shows they help.0 -
I'm with voda and t-mobe on pay as u go for many years.
Its the way to go, especially with kids in the house which u have.
Get down to argos and pick up 4 new phones and 4 £10 top ups all for under £80.

I wish you luck with getting what you want but...
...I'll never understand why people 'buy' children contract phones. It often ends in tears - and a trashed credit record.

I did my daughters for many years and wasn't a problem ...perhaps it's down to trust and how you bring them up
Agreed. I've been on contract since I was 14 and I've never ran up a bill. It also depends on the deal you get, all too often parents place their children on deals that are cheap but don't have a large inclusive allowance and then don't tell their children how to check on their allowances. Disaster waiting to happen really.Have I helped? Feel free to click the 'Thanks' button. I like to feel useful (and smug).0 -

Hi kier333 and all,
Although capping in the way which has been discussed here isn't strictly speaking possible there are other ways through which customers can monitor their monthly usage.
I'd personally recommend online billing through My Account or if you prefer to receive your bill in the post you can request a text message alert containing billing information by dialling 44555 free from your Vodafone mobile.Well, that's funny because just yesterday I spoke with a customer services agent at vodafone and they said that they have now capped it at 50 pence over the £10 per month I pay and when I was passed over to collections to sort a payment out she confirmed that customer services had put a cap on it. So vodafone, make your minds up, you either do or you don't, which is it? I also asked the customer services if I could pay £50 yesterday and then set up a direct debit to pay the rest off at £10 per month, bear in mind this is when I just thought it was £290, She said yes that would be no problem and that my husbands and daughters phone would be switched straight back on. When I got through to collections she told me something completely different. I was also assured that the manager would ring me back either yesterday evening or today to help, so far, no phonecall. I am at my wits end.
Hi bubblesa2,
Thanks for updating us on your progress here.
Apologies for the incorrect information initially given in regard to arranging a monthly payment plan. For clarification, payments made as part of a monthly installment plan would need to made over the phone via a Credit/Debit Card or via cheque.
It's also disappointing to hear that this remains unresolved and as we'd like to get this looked into further we'd be grateful if you could email us at webrelations@vodafone.com if you've encountered difficulties with our online Contact us form which Jenny linked you to last week.
When sending the email could you also state your MSE username so we can correspond it with your concerns here and we'll get back to you as soon as possible.
Many thanks,

Lee - if it isn't possible - which I believe - then (a) why are your colleagues offering it (unless you are suggesting that MSE members are either lying or misunderstanding) and (b) what can you do to raise this at the right levels to stop it?
I would also suggest that your company tries a number of spot checks to see how rampant this problem is.
Edit:-
Well, Well, Well. I have just rung your Customer Services - I am Vodafone customer myself - to ask hypothetically if I could put my son on a contract at £20 per month with some cap - say £10 over that limit monthly.
I got a chap who sounded Dutch or similar that said that there was a "Spendchecker" facility that did just that automatically. Had I stopped there, I would have gained the same impression that the OP did. However, in conversation - and I think the language barrier may have contributed initially - I discovered that this is only for the first 3 months and after that, there are only revenue caps when Vodafone notice high spending of £300 or more.
So, certainly a few secret checks would be in order.0 -

Well I think that proves the point
Here we have one voda person says it can't be done and another who says it can.
As you say GD if you had gone ahead without further questioning and taken out a contract you would have been liable as the OP was found to be.
Clear case of misselling without a doubt !!!
The other interesting point is that it shows they can cap it if they can do it for the first 3 months but they choose not to after that ....I wonder why that is then ??? :rotfl:It's not just about the money0 -
Having a bit of free time today, II wonder if the Vodafone reps can answer this one.
From 1 July 2010, when you use your mobile in EU countries mobile operators must:
Charge no more than €0.39 (about 32p) per minute to make calls, €0.15 per minute to receive calls and €0.11 to send texts (it’s free to receive texts).
Apply an automatic cut-off once your bill reaches €50 (about £42), unless you choose another cut-off limit.
Ok - that applies to the EU, fair enough and it is an approximate amount, given that EU charges are not in real time.
But if they can do it for EU calls, it begs the question whether it is a technical or management decision not to offer the same for UK calls. Spendchecker used to be available - why was it discontinued?
Any answers, Vodafone reps??0 -
Hi all, I would first like to say thankyou to all of you who gave me advice and helped me to stay calm. I knew I was in the right and just had to stick to my guns. It had nothing to do with the way I brought my daughter up but had everything to do with vodafone promising something that apparently they couldn't deliver. My daughter was on a contract with T mobile where she COULDN'T go over her minutes so only cost £15 per month, which was much cheaper than pay as you go. Vodafone said that they could give me a cheaper option with more minutes and that it could be capped to stop her going over. She and we assumed that her phone would cut off when she had reached her limit, as it had done with T mobile. So not our fault for the way we've brought our daughter up or for putting her on contract to save money.
Anyway, we've been phoned today and vodafone have listened to the original call and now know that we were told that it could and would be capped. They have recredited our account and I am now satisfied. I have got to speak to their customer service department again just to check some things but it seems that it is sorted out. Again thankyou so much to everyone on here for your kind words and advice, I couldn't have done it without you all.0
