Hi sparkle :) The NCT do classes practically everywhere, we paid £175 for ours which is a lot but we've both agreed they were worth the money.
Currently studying for a Diploma - wish me luck :)

For Bumgenius Bargains, not my favourite nappy, ( parent pound exploitation at its best if you ask me) but easy to use and many mums like them.
(personally I am a function over fashion person when it comes to nappies - it works out so much cheaper)

Nice to know your heading the right way there sparkle. 12 quid for 3 brand new wraps is good going. - Check out your Nearest NCT second hand sales for wrap bargains there. You can find out whats near you through their website.

  • Hi there!
Thanks for all the good advice last time - just wanted to ask another question if any of you washable nappy fans happen to see this....

My last question was because we use bumgenius - after problems with leaks and them getting a bit stinky I now wash them on 60 with a pre-wash and extra rinse and dry outside in the sun as much as possible and that seems to have solved that problem.
With the leaks, I can only conclude that my little boy (4 months old) is a champion wee-er (as someone put it!) as I now have him on the medium setting and use the big insert and that's now all fine...

Except at night-time! At night I put both inserts in but this still isn't enough. (I put the nappy on around 7.30/8pm and change it after the first feed - 6-7am). The bed is regularly quite wet (mattress cover is in the wash as I type). So I was wondering if I should get another kind of nappy for night?
First I wondering if I should get some different inserts as this might be cheaper? It would be easiest for me to get these from my local washable-nappy company (in Holland) and they do tots-bots eco-cotton and easyfit and some itti-bitti ones:

Or if anyone would recommend a whole nappy - these are the ones they have:

    Thanks!

    hi spaghetti monster.

I'm not as much of an expert as some and i'm sure someone will answer you better soon. Most people need extra boosting/different nappies at night. I use an old style nippa bamboozle with a booster and a fleece wrap, though I don't think ds is a very heavy wetter. If we use a disposeable at night which we sometimes still do it's not particularly heavy. I'm a 2 parter girl, we use motherease one size and one life mainly, we have a few bamboozles and a few cotton tots and we always use motherease wraps or fleece at night. The thing with fleece is air circulates better so although it feels damp they shouldn't be sodden

I know a lot of people also swear by weenotions night nappies with a wrap

You might also find that he wees a lot less if he cuts down on night feeds...that has been the case with my now 9 month old ds who finally started sleeping through a few weeks ago!

spaghetti monster - you could try just adding a extra booster or two the BG for over night. I use little lamb bamboo boosters for added boosting for my nappies. You can get them from ebay so might be worth seeing if they would post to you?? I got 10 for £12 and use them for daytime and night time boosting? from your link I cant tell if any are made from bamboo or hemp as they are best for soaking lots of wee up so better for boosting..........But if your going to buy new nappies I would go for one thats made for night time. We use ella house bumhuggers with a fleece soaker on top - seems to work for dd and ds1 but dont use it for the smallest yet as fleece doesnt work as well when babies are small and dont move much...

  • SM,

We have BGs which I use during the day and like Rach use two parters at night. I'd, however, not managed to get my usual night nappies (washed and dry so used a bg with the two inserts and a Little Lambs bamboo booster folded in half and placed at the front (my son is a front sleeper). I was amazed in the morning; no leaks and a lovely dry bottom!

Have also been trying out Easy Peasy hemp boosters too. as hemp is more absorbent than bamboo. Not quite up to full absorbency yet but seem ok so far.

Another one who has different nappies for nights! I use a bimble with a booster and my normal mother ease PUL wrap. This works well for us. We use teddies for daytime but they don't cope with an overnighter.

Remember you can also boost between nappy and wrap if your Velcro nappy is a snug fit.
  • There is more "soaking" material in the two parter nappies - (Eg Easy Peasy like Nikki is using, Bamboozle as rach mentioned. )
Easy Peasy nappies may ship to europe if you contact them directly (https://www.easypeasynappies.co.uk)
I know many mums that have problems with BG over night and have a two parter, some have tried Itti Bittis but end up on two parters. Wee Notions are the best of the pocket/stuffables.
Both of my girls are heavy wetters and the bomb proof Tots Bots Original Organic and Easy Peasy Bumbles work for me. In both cases I have to boost at night for an "all night" nappy.
dd2 is 7 months and has 2 slim bamboo boosters.

You could try a hemp booster in your BG but the one lady that I know did this found that it didn't solve the problem for long.

Looking at the website I'd recomend trying the Bamboozle http://www.kaatjekatoen.nl/html/luier_bamboozle.html (you'll need to boost it though - I am not convinced that they are 60% better ) or better still Tots Bots Original Organic. http://www.kaatjekatoen.nl/html/luier_organic.html Don't get the popolini as this is very much like the MotherEase One Size. While fantastic - not the greatest night nappy because it is so slim.
  • Thanks so much for the replies!
I will have a look into all the suggestions. Also we're coming over to the UK in a couple of weeks, so it could be an idea to order something and have it delivered to my Mum and pick it up there - I think the prices might be better over in the UK.

I'm a 2 parter fan - I have BGs but they're anything but bombproof (less of an issue now LO is 1 and things are fairly solid).

Nights I wouldn't dare use BG and I suspect as your LO gets bigger still, the BG will struggle more. I use Tots Bots - either the discontinued Cotton Tots or Bamboozle stretchies. Both I boost with a cheap cotton terry booster, plus the small BG microfibre - all wrapped up in a Motherease Airflow - and we're get to have a leak (coming from a boy who can and will pee through a "12 hour" disposable in 3 hours!). Tots Bots Flexitots are also good if you prefer a slimmer nappy - they need a wrap but work a bit more like a pocket nappy in terms of being stuffable. I can get those to last overnight pretty easily too.
