Giz - is the Wonderoo insert a fold out rectangle with poppers and a shaped bit? If so, the shaped bit is a booster, so it's optional as to when you use it.
Bit of an update from me. DD is nearly 11 weeks, so we must have been using the washables for about 4 - 5 weeks now. It's going well.
I find the totsbots easy fits leak ever so slightly on the legs if there's a poo explosion, but otherwise work really well.
I think Bumgenius are the best for us at the moment. They are even holding the wee for 9 hours overnight at the moment.
I bought some organic Flip inserts but I don't think I've washed them enough as it leaked quite badly. But still giving it a chance. The problem I'm finding with Flips at the moment is DD has a poo in most nappies and there's always a bit on the Flip wrap, so we're not able to reuse them to make them that worthwhile at the moment. But I can see they will be great for out and about when she poos less as they take up less room in the bag.
I had planned on using disposables for going out, but so far I haven'tWe haven't used one disposable since we started.
Sunlight is a miracle worker on poo stains. Absolutely amazing - they just disappear.Baby Giz born 6/2/110 -
Hello,
I intend to use reuseable nappies when my twins come. Take a look at the 'Kiddicare.com' website. They are selling a huge kit called 'Bambino Mio Premium Birth to Potty Pack for £229.95. Overall the reviews are pretty good, and in the long run there is A LOT of money to be saved. Be warned though you may need to buy extra covers - I have bought 3 as I have got twins. I may very well put on a disposable at night time though.0 -

Well I bought it as the reviews are pretty good and it gives you everything you need eg. bin etc. The idea is that you pay in the beginning but it saves you money over time. I thought it was worth the long term investment after reading the reviews. Disposable nappies cost an absolute fortune and babies go through them at an alarming rate.
You call of course...0 -
Hmmm. Bambino Mio... used to get the Mother and Baby award for nappies until Totsbots arrived on the market, and then came Bum Genius.
In my experience Bambino Mio ( and prefolds in general) causes more people to try and wish they hadn't bothered than any other nappy on the market. I had to deal with more complaints about bambino mio and prefold nappies because of leak issues than any other brand.
While the smallest size is fab for a slim fit on a newborn, the moment they have a bladder big enough, the nappies generally neither absorb enough or stay put under the wrap. It is only the wrap that holds them in place.
Excellent starter nappy, but not one to stick with as they learn to wriggle and move about.
- That said I know others have gotten on fine with them.
As to the night time, try doubling the nappies up - bulk on a night really doesn't matter. Cut up old towels for boosting or if you are unlucky to have a super heavy wetter, try these hemp boosters:

Be aware though hemp takes a very long time to dry. Not man made like bamboo.0 -
I'm another one who bought bambino mios and didn't use them! Though I got mine in the sale at John Lewis and paid about £25 for 12 nappies and 3 wraps. £200+ is way over the odds for such a cheap nappy IMHO, and a nappy bin costs about a fiver in any hardware shop.
I didn't use mine because all the reviews I read about them were awful, and when I took advice from a real nappy adviser, she also said they were not very good. I've always used bambinex teddies because they fit my baby well (he is tall and skinny) and at the minute use mother ease wraps but when he was smaller used one life wraps.
If you find they do leak michelle, or don't fit baby well, all is not lost as you can still use them as boosters in shaped nappies, and the wraps might work with other nappies too.0 -
The kits comes with:-
24 size 1 nappies
24 size 2 nappies
4 newborn covers
3 small nappy covers
3 medium nappy covers
3 large nappy covers
3 extra large nappy covers
2 laundry bags
1 nappy bucket
miowipes
miofresh
mioliners
The kits also comes with numerous awards and recommendations, including Baby Best Buy 2010 and Practical Parenting Awards 2010
I wouldn't spend £220+ on a whim, Kiddicare are also very good and cheap
I'm happy with what I bought and hopefully they will do their job!:j0 -
Hi all,
Haven't had time to read through everything yet, but just thought I'd jump in and say we've been doing OK with the Bumgenius (except for a small blip when the washing machine packed up :eek::eek:, but the problem was quickly solved!)
LO is 8 weeks old today and in the last couple of weeks we've been having a few more leaks than normal - just a bit round the legs, but nothing too serious, maybe will have to think about boosting the insert at some point??
The other thing that makes me less than 100% happy is that they do smell a bit by the time they need changing- basically a stale wee smell that you can really smell through the clothes. I followed some advice I read on the internet; washed them at 60 degrees with a little bit of bleach in the wash and dried them outside. They smelled quite fresh again, but now a week later I can tell the smell is coming back...
ETA: the wash at 60 with bleach was recommended as a once-in-a-while measure, I usually wash on 40 with a very small amount of ECO powder, as the instructions recommend.
But I also never believed until I saw it that sun really gets the stains out!0 -
Hi spaghetti monster. Try stripping them? There are various methods but the easiest I have come across is to wash on a standard length cycle at 30 with a tiny amount of detergent, followed by 2 long 60 cycles with no detergent. No need to dry in between. Dry outside if you can.0

Michelle, glad your happy with your nappies, you may never find an issue with them, I hope you don't.
Spaghetti Monster. Don't bleach your BGs - it will rot the elastic - a weak point on these ones. They shouldn't need stripping just yet, but if the smell is there then firstly - use less wash powder/gel in your nappy washes. It's a build up of detergent that causes the smell.
You really only need a table spoon of the stuff at the very most.
Secondly - as Nicki has suggested strip them, I use a capful of vinegar, no wash powder at 60. Keep rinsing till no suds. Or use Soda Crystals, I forget the correct amount right now, I believe it's a table spoonful also.
The leaking around the leg - wicking by the sounds of things. Boosting is your answer if the nappy isn't on too loose.0
