Thanks Nicki, I will have to look into it some more, or ask for them as a pressie...
So would it be worth only buying size 2 nappies do you think, as you say you managed with muslin nappies for a while?:):)

You could do. Some size 2 nappies can be modified with poppers to be birth to potty. They will be bulky though and you might find it harder to get clothes to fit over them when baby is tiny. The size 1 s will be a better fit. We used muslins for about a month, then size 1 s until about 10 months, then disposies for about 6 months(just because I didn't get round to ordering size 2s) and we'll be in the current ones until he toilet trains. Muslins won't be absorbent enough to use for more than a few weeks I don't think.
If this is your first baby and you plan to have more i'd be inclined to get size 1s now and size 2s when you need them, as you'll still save money and will get lots of use out of both sizes.0 -
Thanks Nicki, sounds like I will need some size 1 nappies then, thanks for your advice re timescales.
At this stage we're not sure, I am 34 now so we'd have to get pregnant again relativel sharpish, so much to think about...:):)

A quick question, would anyone on here consider hiring nappies? This would reduce the costs and mean that if you found the ones you chose didn't work you could swap them. Does this sound silly or an idea that you may consider?

Not necessarily. I had my first at 30, my second at 31 and my third at 40. And to be honest I'd love a fourth but I don't think I'll persuade DH on that front until time has well and truly run out for me!

Leopardlady yes maybe, though I don't know if locally there's anything like that, not heard of anything anyway, I will keep my ears open!
Nicki - he he maybe there's a chance then, guess I worry about the stats for problems. However once Sweetpea is born, I will probably have my world turned upside down and be considering increasing the family he he...:):)

Same as. My first is due in two weeks, I've got some second hand Tots Bots all in one nappies off usednappies.co.uk for £65 and our council will give £50 cashback so I'm giving them a go, mainly as a money saver (apparently you'll spend on average £10 per week on disposables but won't spend anything like this on washing costs) but if they don't work, I'll sell them on and go onto disposables (which I don't really want to do, but I'm not going to be earth mother if if it's not working out!).Life is what you make it. Hi Gefjun - same here, I will give them a go and see what's what, has to be worth a try. Sadly my council gives nothing, and seeing as we're down South in an uber 'Green' place, you'd think they would...
Got around 20 x small size prefold nappies on Freecycle on the weekend, so now just need to buy some small wraps and hopefully that would last us maybe a few months whilst I get the hang of it, and we will have spent a minimum amount that way...:):)

We are back in disposables for the time being. OH changed DS's nappy on Saturday and accused me of leaving him too long between changes because he had a terribe nappy rash. Which when I looked at it, turned out to be chicken pox and he is covered down there, bless him! I don't want to wreck my nice white nappies with calamine lotion, and it's going to be more comfy for him to be in extra dry nappies for the time being, so the washing machine is going to get a break for a while.
Sparkle - lots of mums find the pre-folds are a bit leaky with newborns so don't give up if they aren't fantastic for the first few weeks. If you don't get on with them at all and decide to move to shaped nappies, you can still use the pre-folds as boosters so they won't go to waste whatever happens. If you google reviews for bambino mios for example, you'll see what I mean!0 -
Hi Nicky oh no your poor DS! Don't blame you for going back to disposables, it's alot to deal with and I am glad you mentioned about calamine as i didn't know it stained. I guess the only upside is that once DS has had chicken pox it's over and done with for good, is it?
Re:prefolds that's good to know that they can be used as boosters, I should have worked it out - duh! Brilliant, at least they won't go to waste then if I don't get on with them.
Have gone all forgetful about the brands of nappies again, so will look into Bambino Mios and see what they're about - after a while my brain went to mush... i think I liked the Bamboozle stretchies and the Tiny Tots ones (their bestseller white ones, I forget the name). Both expensive... so might need to find an alternative... thing is we have very hard water so the Bamboozle stretchies seemed a good solution...:):)
