I have what they call show plates on my car have had since 2008, I have daughters name, DOB and a picture on. I have not messed aorund with writing so thats standard etc..I have been pulled by police and when he asked if i knew why i said my number plates and he said nothign wrong with them :D They were pulling me for speeding 89 in a 70 zone which i did get a slap on wrist for:P
As you can imagine i have had my car though 2 MOTs since they been on and still passed:)

But why not just stay legal, and stop inviting the police to stop you?

I don't think i had a sign on my car saying pull me lol

I was simply saying my number plate is a lot more adapted then just missing a postcode, so OP shouldn't worry about it

Because you have got away with non compliance plates, doesn't make them right, the next time you are stopped, you may get a different result.

So the OP should comply or risk getting stopped.

The plates are not street legal but will not fail an MOT as the test was changed because of the ambiguity of the regs i.e. the plate must have the BS number on it but the regs do not state where !!

The OP is complying, just not meeting the British Standard, but still not committing any offence in order to be stopped or fined.

However, going from what has been said, sarahjayne1977, probably does have fancy show plates and is running the risk of being pulled and getting a fine .

As long as the fonts, background colour, spacing etc. complies, no makers mark or BS number is not grounds for rejection.

But that doesn't make them legal.

That only applies to the MOT.

It doesn't make them illegal either. No offence is being committed, they just don't meet the British Standard.

My neighbour was stopped by the police for having show plates without the Post Code etc., OK ...he wasn't nicked, however he was stopped for it.

If the plates are otherwise legal in terms of font, character spacing, size, background colour etc., I don't see what there is to worry about:

    1. It would never get spotted.
    2. Even if it did it would be the supplier who would be guilty of any offence.
