  • Why are people risking their pets' health with unlicensed websites? Doesn't the fact that they don't need a prescription for a POM-V product tell you something?

For what it's worth, I get my dogs' medication from both Animed Direct and Pharmacy2U (the latter is good for a human medication one of my dogs needs; the former's slightly cheaper for Milbemax).

I've sent an e-mail of complaint to the VMD, hoping they get DiscountPetCare shut down. If you want to do the same, e-mail here: postmaster@vmd.defra.gsi.gov.uk
  • I looked at their site and was initially impressed due to low prices but suspicious as meds that are normally prescription only do not need one with the. I read lots of reviews and for the sake of saving £10 getting flea stuff from my vet, I really would say it is not worth the risk. IF the products are fake or stored incorrectly they can have serious implications for your pets.

Just a quick thanks to the posts regarding this website. Stumbled across discountpetcare.co.uk whilst researching Profender Wormer Spot-On for cats. Thought it looked a bit dodgy, and this thread confirmed my suspicions.

I would never purchase medication for my cat if there was any doubt about quality / illegitimacy.

I have been using AnimedDirect.co.uk for quite a while now and have had unfailingly excellent service from them, so will be sticking with them. I highly recommend them.

Like others wish I'd seen this first! Ordered advocate 2 months ago for our 2 GSDs as seemed good price & didn't need prescription like other sites. Delivered within days from Barbados!!! Invoice price half of quoted price and different from charged to my account. Queried and sorted ok. Have used for 2 months and noted no ill effects ** SEE UPDATE** but then saw this forum! Contacted Bayer Health (manufacturers) with batch and expiry details on pack. Bayer confirmed Advocate is prescription only drug and that only one of the batch numbers was genuine and queried transport and storage details. Also confirmed that this website was being investigated by the Vetinary Medicines Directorate.
Website is still active and I could have put in a new order -- but I didn't!
DON'T use this website if you value your pets - some of the stuff is NOT GENUINE and storage is suspect.
**UPDATE - This product from this source DID NOT WORK. One dog developed severe flea investation. Back to the Vets tomorrow!!
singapore and barbados are well known for fake goods they copy bar codes and batch numbers and logos. my dogs had real problems after using advocate from Singapore. never again took over a year to put this right and cost me over a grand each dog 4,000 for my 4 at my vet
  • I feel if vets were not so greedy in the prices they charge people would not have to search for these cheaper websites, in fact it is the vets own fault. They want these firms closed down because it is losing them money. The vets get these medicines so cheap for themselves, they do not mind that because it is money in their pockets. I read a lab report for my dog and the vet got charged £12 by the laboratory for this test on my dog, the vet charged me £35 that's over double. I was told vets get vaccines for about £7 and charge £65 or over. Where I live Jollies Pet Store on a Tuesday after 1.00pm have a vet do both vaccines for £25, so see how much profit they make.
I say good luck to these companies that sell these products at a more affordable price because it helps people who can not afford these high extorsionate prices for their pets, pets suffer because people on low income sometimes have to let their pets go because of the high cost of keeping a pet. Old people who may only have their pet for company can be forced to let their pet go because of high vet bills and food costs. Some people even neglect their animals because they can not afford to keep them properly and do not want to lose their pet, so hang onto them as long as they can.
A friend of mine ordered from the above company and recieved the goods and she checked the Advocate out and they were genuine. So yes good on these companies and long may they reign. I think certain people are trying to make people scared and panic into avoiding these companies. No company is without problems with delivery or something to compalin about them.
