Car parking at work

Those pics show a surface that's in way better nick than the muddy track I have lived up for the last 3 years and my car (old Golf) hasn't failed its MOT in the time we've lived here.
It may be unpleasant/difficult to walk on (I recommend army boots) but it's not damaging your cars. I'd be more concerned about the damage to the field.0 -
Park further away and walk
People with attitudes like yours give the rest of us working in the public sector a bad name.0 -

If you force the Head's hand then yes, he might well remove the temp car park.
As an employer I would withdraw any parking facilities if they caused me any grief at all, any sensible employer would, I would certainly not be looking to spend any money on them.
I think that if you are so concerned about the H&S side of it that you should request the site is no longer used for parking.0 -
I'd be surprised if there is any money available to address the problem. I assume pulling the building down and rebuilding is being done under the BSF programme. The funding for that is tightly controlled, monitored by the LA not the head, and won't be able to be used for something not related to the building itself.
All school budgets are being squeezed to the core at the moment. Whilst the pupil premiums remain the same lots of the other funding streams which make up the schools' budgets are being withdrawn and most schools are having to make severe cuts to their school development plans. A lot of schools are considering redundancies, or have already made them. Local authorities are reclaiming unspent monies from previous years so even schools who have built up sensible contingencies over a number of years are suddenly finding there is no money around for luxury expenditure. I suspect your head is working super hard to make sure he doesn't have to let staff go and can continue to offer the best education he can to the students. The thought of blowing a few thousand of his budget on a temporary staff carpark is probably laughable to him, given his other priorities at the moment.
As others have said a staff car park is not a right but a perk which can be withdrawn at any time, and before making too much fuss about this, you might have to ask yourself what you would rather have - a muddy car park or no on site car parking at all - as I suspect in reality these are the only two options open to you.
As for allowing you to start work late and finish early to compensate for using public transport :rotfl::rotfl: Who do you propose teaches your class when you do your part time day? How about you leave work at 3.30pm rather than 5.30 or 6 as most employees have to do, and have 13 weeks a year when you don't need to attend your work place at all0 -
When I first saw the pictures I thought I was looking at the car park at the Weston Homes Community Stadium.Never Knowingly Understood.

Quite!......The Googlewhacker referance is to Dave Gorman and not to my opinion of the search engine!

to add to the H&S question - it is also the responsibility of employees. My car park was slippy as hell when it was covered in snow (all 400 spaces of it) but ultimately it is my responsibility to wear suitable footwear. We sometimes park on a rough bit of ground as it is closest to my particular building (it is an expansive site) but it is my responsibility not to trip over a rock as it were...my local pub on the other hand decided to avoid the litigious culture during the snow period by simply closing the car park, rather than attempting to clear it...!
If I was the employer I would shut the CP if people cannot manage it for a short period - or if it is indeed so bad that there is a risk of going head over heels.
I hope it isn't in Nottingham City CEntre though, as employers will need to charge for that privilege soon and it wont be cheap!0 -
OP I suggest you just get a pair of wellies.0

Buy yourself a Flight Attendant type, pull-along suitcase from the likes of Matalan, park on the road, wheel your work in behind you. No mud, no change of shoes, no heavy books, or dropping of paperwork.
