Most reliable broadband service

I am current with Virgin Media. The speeds are really unstable, and then the quality dropped so I could not make any VOIP calls. This was VERY embarrassing, because they were calls for my work.
I tried raising a fault, but was told there was no issue and they would not give me an issue number. On reading their forums, it seems if this is a common response.
Which is the most RELIABLE and HELPFUL internet service provider? Price is secondary, because the internet is SO important for my work.
Thanks,
George

Is that Virgin Media (cable) or Virgin National (ADSL).
If cable then you'll need a BT line before you can consider ADSL.
If it is ADSL then most problems are caused by your phone line and moving ISP may well not fix anything. That said Virgin National have a poor reputation.0 -
That gum you like is coming back in style.0

I've seen tests showing 200Mbps on a 10Mbps cable connection...
Still waiting on OP to say what they have though. VM offshore callcentre is often useless. Reporting problems on their forum is slower but more likely to get a good outcome - http://community.virginmedia.com/0 -
I have the cable broadband, without a phone line.
Yeah, I went though to the off shore call centre last night. And they were useless.
But, the internet it too important to have to post onto forums, route via call centres. They would not even raise a fault with my service! What? That is rubbish.
I am after a ISP that will take faults raised, with appropriate checking and logging, then investigate.0 -
If you decide to leave cable then you'll need a BT based phone line as the first step. If you have any problems on that line you'll find that BT and the ADSL based ISPs can give VM a good run for their money in the incompetence stakes. That's the reason I moved to cable.
I'm under no illusion that VM would handle a cabling problem any better than BT did with my phone line but as the cable is only 100m long with no joints I'm hoping the chances of it failing will be better than the phone line which did fail and they couldn't get fixed.0
