Thanks for the opinions re. the table runner :) as we're not having a formal sit-down meal there won't be any place settings on the tables and so I'm worried that with a single runner it would look too bare when there's just the little centrepiece & a few scattered petals? Here's a pic of how another bride decorated her tables at the venue and I think it looks very bare...? (Nb. our pink is a similar shade to this so quite pale and not overbearing)

I've heard good things about Croatia & Bulgaria but never heard anything about Albania...

We're having a wedding-free weekend I think - I've had a helluva week at work and just want to sit in my PJs for 2 days!!

Hello, the July 2012 thread is quiet today so am dropping in on other threads, hope you don't mind! :)

Roz_V, love your shoes!!! Did you get your BM dresses from Littlewoods on eBay? I bought the Camellia wedding dress on it yesterday for £40 (it's brand new too), am dying to see if it's as nice in real life as in the photo!

White_Sapphire, Croatia is not *that* expensive (have been there several times and travelled all over plus the islands); accommodation and food in particular are very cheap. It is also fabulous and unspoilt. You would love it. Avoid Bulgaria like the plague - the coast anyway, it's been ruined by overdevelopment and is now an even uglier version of the Costa del Sol!

Maybe go for a wider table runner? I think tbh it only looks a bit bare because there is no cutlery, glassware etc on it.

Hi wanchai! You're welcome on this thread anytime! :D
thanks for the heads-up on Bulgaria; I hadn't really considered that one, and now I definitely won't! Croatia is still a possibility; it was just when trying to work out what it would cost per day it was coming up a little more than we hoped. We might have overestimated things a little though, so will definitely do a bit more research before making a decision.

By the way, your dress is beautiful!

Thanks, hope it's lovely. What a bargain that would be!!! OH will be impressed! :rotfl: I'm still going dress shopping in the meantime, mind! It would be rude not to. :D

Croatia is very cheap if you stay in B&Bs/guesthouses rather than hotels. Some families who live in central locations rent an annexe/granny flat beside their house, which can work out cheaper again, and most of them have sun terraces. Food and drink are super cheap, and transport also - we travelled up the coast by boat a few times, it was fab. :D I just love the place, it is probably my favourite European country. What other places are you considering?

  • Here are Catherine's bridesmaid dresses (Seventh) as she is at work and I can post for her - they are lovely. As you can see - she got them from the Littlewoods Returns shop on ebay as well - fantastic shop!

    Quite right too! ;)

Thanks, that's good to know. The only other place we've seriously considered is Albania. We were thinking about Portugal a few months ago, but it was turning out too expensive for what we wanted. We'd really like to go away for 10-14 days, as I never feel that a week is long enough to have a proper holiday! We also quite like the idea of going somewhere slightly off the beaten track.
There's no hurry yet; Honeymoon is on my January To Do list (I'm a To Do list freak!), but I'm quite enjoying the research!!

But we won't have any cutlery etc out either as we're not having a formal sit-down, just a BBQ buffet and enough seating for everyone... I think I'm going to have to try it out at the venue for myself... and actually it's only going to be an extra £7 for the additional fabric if I do go with two so I don't know why I'm worrying about it so much!!! :o

Good to know I'm not the only one with monthly to-do lists!! I have sooo many lists that I think I need a list of lists!!! :rotfl:

Ooooh those bridesmaids dresses are lovely Seventh! Really pretty.

And hello wanchai - I've been lurking on your other thread & following your progress :hello:That dress is gorgeous! I really love the detail of the sash & buckle! My shoes were an ebay bargain BNIB and are soooo comfy. I had to take them to my mums now because I kept "wearing them in" around the house - in fact you'd do well to find me not wearing them lol!!

I've put some pictures of my dress up now on the Dream Dress thread

When you start saying "I have to do a To Do List list", you know you're taking it too far... :rotfl:
Mine is all one list, just divided up into sections :D

  • Hi all im new to this thread. I wish i could start right back from page 1 & have a real good read of this thread but i just dont have time although i will try to over the weekend...

We booked our wedding last week and are getting married on Sat 1st September 2012. Today is our 11 year anniversary we will have been together almost 12 years by the time we get married. Im 29 years old & my partner is 30.

I have made up a massive spreadsheet or everything i could think of that i would have liked at my wedding & it comes in at just over £23,000 **gulp** im planning on being to have it all minus maybe a few minor things for about £14,000, the cheaper the better as i have 40 weeks i worked out tonight to save like mad before balances are due 4 weeks before the wedding..

We are getting married in a county hotel. Our colour scheme is black & white with a bit of shabby chic thrown in.. Our wedding is a big one 106 day guests & a extra 60 at night..

Not sure what else to say LOL but look forward to getting to know you all over the next 10ish months
    Getting married Sat 1st September.
Saving like mad for the next 40 weeks
