Hi & welcome Jessie, we're date mates!!! It's coming around so quickly I can't believe it!!!
I've had a productive week in terms of the wedding:
- booked to give notice of marriage (I actually nearly wet myself laughing when I rang the reg office and got automated options saying "press 1 for births, press 2 for deaths, press 3 for marriages" :rotfl:)
- hairdresser booked for a pre-wedding trial & "day of" package - £50! I haven't lived in the area for about 7 years but it's somebody I went to school with & has opened his own salon so he knows me (even if I was 18 last time he saw me!!), plus he cuts both of my sisters' hair - he's also going to do both of them & my mum on the day for £65 for the three.
- hen weekend booked for the end of June - 2 nights in a 4* Bristol hotel with full English both mornings, cocktail making with buffet on Friday evening; spa day on the Saturday with 30min treatment each, 2 course meal on the Saturday night & bar/club entry both evenings... £185 each & I only had to pay £49 to secure it for all 16 of us and then I confirm final numbers & pay the balance 5 weeks before
- met with the people who have taken over our reception venue to pay the deposit and LOVE them!! They were so helpful & enthusiastic - much more so than the previous managers - and OH & I both feel much more confident. Plus they will set things up on the day free of charge (before we had to do it ourselves and pay for earlier access to the building!) and we can leave stuff overnight & collect the next day rather than have everything off the premises by midnight. They've also made a few small logistical changes like moving the bar into the same room as the disco so that people don't miss out which also creates a nice "quiet room" for the oldies/kids.
- My new shoes have arrived. I already have another pair but wasn't 100% sure on them so ordered a pair of Rainbow Club shoes from Ebay which are beautiful - just the right (low) heel height and are a "short point" so they don't look like boats on my size 7 feet (which a lot of shoes do!) Trying them with my dress tomorrow so fingers crossed... I'm also going to take some close-up pictures of the detail in my dress so that I can start to buy my jewellery/hair accessories to match.
- I've also had a wobble on my flowers - I already have a bouquet of ivory foam flowers but am now unsure as to whether it's too plain and think I want a bit of pink in there too, so I asked a company to make me up a pale pink & ivory posy & when they sent the pic I'm unsure of the shade of pink... Anyway, they're sending me a petal sample and as I haven't actually sorted any of the "pink" bits for the wedding yet (eg. chair cover sashes etc) if I like the shade I may be willing to work around the petals!! I'll then dismantle the ivory bouquet & use the flowers to make my buttonholes.
White Sapphire, our DJ is £125 and we have to use him (there's a noise limiter in the venue which cuts out if it gets too loud so I'd rather use someone who's used to working within its' restrictions anyhow!) but the one bit of advice I can give from my planning so far is "go with your gut instinct"!
Liz, those prey mantis are beautiful!!
Fawny, love the invites!! I can't wait to get cracking on mine!0 -
Fawny, I didn't realise you were a Fiona as well!Scotsbride wrote: »hope this link works as for designer and style haven't a clue just like it:o
Beautiful! :TThink I might have found my dream dress, a gorgeous two piece princess full skirt affair for £160 in a charity shop! Got my mum coming up tomorrow to come see it
That's some good MSE-ing Jessie! :money:Hi & welcome Jessie, we're date mates!!! It's coming around so quickly I can't believe it!!!

Roz, well done on your planning successes! I keep having minor colour wobbles myself;I have three colours (not including cream and gold), and can never decide which colours to use for what; they're all bright, contrasting colours so need to be careful or they'll end up being a bit too much all together! It's making me very indecisive when buying little bits like ribbon!!Marrying my lovely man on 1st September 2012

Yep thats me, I was going to say but thought it might get confusing with two of us:DMarried the man of my dreams - 10th September 2012, St Paul's Bay Lindos :jIt was amazing.0 -
Hmm well the petal sample has arrived from the florist and I really like the colour
Now I just need to figure out whether to go for it and use my existing bouquet elsewhere or stick with what I've got...
Also I think we've decided on table decorations :jWe are having square tables and thinking something similar to this:
So square mirror from Ikea, 10cm cube vase filled with pink water crystal beads and topped with some ivory foam roses, with four long-burning tealights in glass holders around the edge. Then there'll be pale pink table runners and some pink petals scattered about. It'll come in at about £95 for 10 tables which is on budget . Unsure whether to just have one table runner per table though or two at 90 degrees to each other... What do you ladies think? The tables seat 10 people so are quite big and I'm worried about them looking bare but I don't want them to be cluttered...
Jessie - what did your mum think to the dress when she saw it? Have you bought it?
Scotsbride - I missed the link to your dress last time I looked at the thread - it is gorgeous!! I daren't look too much at other dresses now as I've changed my mind about everything else I'm sure I'll change my mind on that too!0 -
hurray! after all the stress and angst - i found a bridesmaids' dress that i like, that my girls like too, and that is affordable! VERY affordable, reduced to £15 from £85!
Even though there's 11 months to go, we snapped them up - at those prices, we can always sell them on if we choose not to use them.
My best friend has the option now of slimming into the dress we got her (the size range wasn't great) or we can treat her to a different "chief bridesmaid" dress, just to make her stand out a bit more.
(and then, of course, i can use the unused dress to make ties and handkerchiefs for the groomsmen! yay!)Life on a shoestring!0 -
Hi
Roz - the table decorations look lovely, personally i'd just use one table runner keeping it looking elegant & simple:D
The Seventh - fab news on the bridesmaid dress & how very :money: Can we have a look?
Were away for the weekend so a bit of relaxing for us:DMarried the man of my dreams - 10th September 2012, St Paul's Bay Lindos :jIt was amazing.0 -

Table decorations look lovely Roz; I agree with fawny that one table runner will be enough.TheSeventh wrote: »hurray! after all the stress and angst - i found a bridesmaids' dress that i like, that my girls like too, and that is affordable! VERY affordable, reduced to £15 from £85!

Bargain! :T I like your thinking of making the ties and handkerchiefs - why hadn't I thought of that?? I think I might look into doing that too; we basically have no budget currently for groomsmen, unless it's taken out of H2B's outfit budget, so we're thinking of just asking them to wear a grey suit and we just provide the accessories. I could just buy a bit more of the MoH's fabric. :THi

Have a lovely weekend fawny!
Well, I've been going slightly mad buying ribbons, net curtains and crocheted doilies (as you do). Good old ebay!! The net curtains are to make lace bunting, the doilies to make lanterns (remember making papier mache masks using balloons? Like that, but with doilies, into which I will put led tealights suspended in a wire frame which I have yet to work out how to make), and the ribbons, well, just cos they're pretty and are in our colours, so I'll think of something; wrapped round bouquets, tying up the favours.....
On our current To-Do list is transport; thinking about the pedalpower things I mentioned ages ago, but the quote is a lot more than I thought, so might try to negotiate :money:. Also still haven't sorted out the DJ; lots of quotes but nothing followed up yet.
Also thinking about the Honeymoon; we were thinking of Croatia, but it's not looking as budget-friendly as we thoughtSo we've been researching other countries on the Med, and apparently Albania is turning into an up-and-coming destination. It looks beautiful, is unspoilt, has a fascinating history, as well as both mountains and beaches (I like to have a mixture of hiking, sightseeing and lounging
) and the cost of living is very cheap. Oh, and apparently the people love visitors - hospitality is very much part of their culture. Nothing decided yet, but I love the look of it!
