  • So glad to be back in touch with this thread now. I'm getting quite tearful, I'm so excited! I just went on to the city clerk's website where we'll be staying to check up on validity/requirements for our marriage licence and it all seems pretty straight forward.

My OH and his best man will be in Highland dress so I was thinking of incorporating some tartan ribbon into my posy, or even a wrist corsage. I remember seeing a few films where the girls wore wrist corsages, it seems like quite an American thing? I guess I'm not after a traditional bouquet so looking for something a little less formal.

    Hi All

Thank you for the warm welcome!

Have managed to sort the transport now, but everyone keeps telling me to stop doing the other tasks and concentrate on the dress - they are telling me i am leaving it late and will struggle to get a dress if i don't order one soon.

But i have issues with dress shopping - firstly I have never liked shopping, hate buying new clothes, but what is stopping me more is that i have put on a lot of weight over the last 18 months (i am trying but failing with a diet, but can't exercise for medical reasons). at the moment i can't think of anything worse than shopping or people looking at me in a dress (lacking in confidence and my OH is worried i will refuse to have my photo taken on the big day........).

would it really be so bad to wait for 2 months or so to see if i can lose some weight and imporve my confidence (so have 3 months between buying dress and wedding day) or am i risking not being able to order one?

    all thoughts welcome!

everyone has done loads! looking at reception decor ideas came across a second hand book which says how to make your own confetti so might visit the flower market to get some cheap roses/ hydrangers. it takes about 4-6 weeks. it also says how to make buttonholes and garlon to decorate of i will be subsituting the flower/leaves for the ones which are more MSE and fit into my scheme

are you planning on freezing the petals or drying them (say in airing cupboard)? i have been looking at ways to do it online, but not sure which is best

  • Afternoon all - I've had a weekend at home and have come to some important wedding-related decisions.

Firstly, I AM telling my parents at Easter, s0d the house, I want to share the happiness. My mum is well stressed at the moment, and I think that having something to plan and look forward to will really help her. OH hasn't actually said no to this, and I think when I get a chance to explain properly he will understand.

Secondly, I AM having my step-father give me away, not my biological father. My "real" dad has tried to give me a massive guilt trip about how upset my sister was when my OH came to visit and I didn't make time to spend with just her. What exactly was I supposed to do, say "I know you haven't met my parents before and don't know the area, but can you bugg*r off for half about hour cos my sis is being a brat?" I think not. My step-father is the one that has always been there (every parent's evening, every teenage heartbreak etc) so I want it to be him.

Thirdly, I am NOT having all my sisters as bridesmaids. With the informal nature of the wedding, I always thought having 4 BMs would be over the top, and with littlest sis being horrid (she also said that she didn't want to see me again til after her GCSEs this summer - fine by me) there is no way I'm having her. Older sis is also being horrid, but to mum this time, not me. (I don't care if your baby is just 5 days old, if you can make it out of the house for a walk on the beach and tea and cake in the cafe, you CAN make it to see your mum on Mother's Day.) So now I will be having my two sisters as BMs, ones I actually like, who actually get on well with me and will be so excited about the day and are highly unlikely to display any selfish, brattish behaviour.

In slightly happier news (and a bit less bridezilla-esqe) I have found a nice hotel we can stay at the night of the wedding. Everyone else is welcome to camp, but I quite like the idea of an actual bed on my wedding night. Still waiting for the guest list from OH, but he is also trying to find me a car cos mine broke, so I will forgive him for being a bit delayed.

Also - babyb06, I have not really started looking for a dress yet. I want high-street though, so I don't know what the lead time is on the fancy ones.

    Hi

Am not a September 2012 bride (August 2012 instead), but can I be cheeky and ask how you make your own confetti????:)
  • I forgot to say! My wedding is on 7th September :-)

I've just downloaded a wedding app for my ipod as I'm finding my memory a bit unreliable these days! I know I don't have anywhere near as much to think about as most of you ladies, but I thought getting it all down on paper, so to speak, was a good idea.

Hi ladies! Hope everyone is well. There's a lot of activity on this thread at the moment; well done joanneinwonderland, nenaromanova, Starrystarrynight, babyb06, LouisaMay and Scotsbride on all your planning since I was last on here!

nenaromanova, you simply can't tell us you've finished your invites and then not post pictures; it's against the rules!!! :p

babyb06, I think that it might be an idea to phone round bridal shops and ask what their minimum time is to order a dress in and get it altered, and also tell them that you're in the process of losing weight so aren't sure what will fit or suit you. Any decent shop will be able to advise you on what to do, after all, a lot of brides want to drop some weight before the big day.

Hadley1, you can make your own confetti by drying flower petals, either somewhere like an airing cupboard, or using some kind of gel crystal things that remove moisture (I remember my sister drying a rose this way years ago). I did consider it but decided that my DIY list is quite long enough already... Have a look on youtube, I'm sure someone will have posted a tutorial somewhere.

Starrystarrynight, your date is now confirmed on our list! :j

In my news, I ordered some veil fabric the other day, so waiting for that to arrive. I also ordered some beautiful lace to just go around the train of the veil, but when it arrived it had damp patches all over it where it hadn't been securely packaged, which have stained it quite badly! So hoping to get my money back on that, grrr.....
My mum and I finally found the fabric for my MoH's dress; a very dark purple crepe-backed satin. I can't wait to see the finished dress, it'll be gorgeous!! My mum also found most of her outfit, so we just need to get her hat. She said she'll have to hide the receipts for her dress and shoes from my dad..... :rotfl: It's all stuff she can wear again though, so cost per wear will be low... :money:

And, I'm going to see a hairdresser next week, who sounded lovely on the phone and has been recommended by my make up artist, so hopefully that'll be all good!

H2B and I are off to see our celebrant on Sunday, who sent us loads of info ages ago which we've still to give any more than a cursory glance at :o I don't want us to go to the meeting with no ideas or without having agreed with each other beforehand roughly how we want the ceremony to go, so some work to be done this week...

That's enough rambling for now, even by my standards :D Have a lovely rest of week, all!

ETA: nenaromanova, that tiara is lovely!! Looking forward to seeing the invites...

:heart::heart: Marrying my lovely man on 1st September 2012 :heart::heart:

  • Neneromanova, you're invites are sooooooooo pretty - i'm jealous, so now I've started looking!

I realise I can't actually make any decisions without my mum (as the invites will be coming from her and my stepdad), but I need some help with wording. For info on accommodation, I have this so far:

"LouisaMay and OH want to keep things simple, and invite guests to camp overnight at the reception venue. So if you want to join in the fun, please bring a tent, camper or caravan."

What I also need to say is "if you'd rather be boring and stay in a hotel, try one of these", but obviously it needs to be more polite than that. I was thinking of "If you are unable (or unwilling) to sleep outdoors, then the following hotels are recommended". But I'm not sure about the wording. Any ideas?! What are other folk having (or have seen) when recommending hotels?
