One other quick comment on the Chrysler 300c regarding transporting of big dogs is that the carpetted base of the boot removes to give a hard floor (ie dog and mud friendly) and a few more inches of height to the boot.0

You don't own a dog do you?
What surface is left without the carpet?0 -

If it helps I have just put a deposit down on a 300c after looking at them for a while and have the following thoughts.
1) Its a big old boat, I like big cars and even owned a 7 series but the 300c is bigger so beware if you don't have much parking.
2) it really does feel like an old school merc, by that I mean mechanically sorted but without all the experimental electrics and plush but fragile feel that the modern ones have.
3) For what it is, a 2.4 tonne RWD barge with mostly proven merc running gear and one hell of a road presence its really good value.
4) its not a car that a lot of nutters buy despite being designed for the 6.1liter petrol variant  so insurance/tax etc aint too bad.
5) visibility wise, it looks like it should be horrible but it aint that bad, rear parking sensors should solve reversing woes.
6) it is rare and unusual enough to stand out, this could be good or bad
7) the 08 "facelift" does feel nicer than the 07 and that's what I bough but it was mostly a proximity thing.
If it helps I got an 08 300c diesel estate with 22k miles from a main dealer which had been serviced every 8k miles. comes with a 3 year warranty , 1 year mot, 1 year tax and full tank of fuel for £12,500. Im certain you could do better if you are prepared to take a 57 plate.0 -
Only when I'm feeling nostalgic do I wish I still had my old Volvo (a 240) rather than the Mondeo's I've owned/still own (Mk2, currently have a Mk3). While my old Volvo was reliable, safe and strong, it was slow, handled poorly and would never do above 29 mpg no matter what, compared to 40mpg I've got out of my current car (similar size petrol engines too). Don't know how much better than 940 was though.
I never owned a 240, but the 940 is sort of a more modern design, even if it is just a facelift 740.
I had a 150bhp 2 litre turbo petrol engine, and for it's size and soft suspension it actually handled surprisingly well. I felt more confident chucking it into roundabouts than I do in the Mondeo that's for certain.
(And the 940 is the only RWD car I've owned, so this isn't FWD vs RWD snobbery)0
