I am warming to a Skoda, just been for a gander at the one over the road, its a Skoda Superb and looks very nice indeed.

Not sure how keen the OH will be on driving a Skoda though!! :o

Did someone recommend a French car???

There not all bad, in my youthful days I use to own as a "weekend" car, a Renault Clio Williams, it was quite possibly the best car I have ever driven!! I wouldn't really consider a modern French car to be honest, I have heard to many horror stories about dodgy electrics, and I think my money would be better spent on something more reliable!

That's not really your average French car!

Yes apparentley the post 1945 ones come with a choice of forward gears as opposed to the previous reverse, fast reverse and reverse so far you join the other side.

Very true! But it is French and to be fair, some of Renault's hot hatches aren't that bad at all. Wouldn't touch a Peugeot though or your average French car!

I remember years ago as a young driver I had a Peugeot 306 HDi brand new as a company car. It literally spent more time in the garage than I did driving it!

    It did put me off!

I can honestly say all the people I know who own Peugeot's (why they buy them I don't know!) are constantly having problems with them!

One poor lass at work bought a 05 plate 206cc in Oct and it has never been right, electrics are literally useless and to date she has spent over 2k trying to fix it. :o

NOOOOOOOO that was the Italian cars ........ the French offerings came with a white flag, pompous attitude and a whiff of garlic.

I think you will find that the reverse gearing was particular to both French and Italian... Although the French have done an excellent job at forgetting their foray to the wrong side of the autobahn - I think it was the Vichy special edition...
