Some people just don't make good salesmen though.
But the OP never had the chance to find out, didn't even go for an interview to see what the job entailed. Who knows, they might have taken him on as a trainee.
The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark

But in my view, it is best to have knowledge of cars to be able to sell them. Many people complain about customer service and sales advisers not knowing what they are talking about. I would be in this situation. I know nothing about cars, I made the judgement not to apply for that job.
First of all, it has been my experience that those who too much about cars, often make terrible car sales executives. You didn't even give it a chance to see what the skills were needed, if any. Most dealers, when taking on new people, are looking for someone who is willing to learn.

I'm a careers adviser. I should say I was a careers adviser in a previous life. I worked in the schools' and in the universities' sectors.

You are right to make a new appointment with Connexions and I also suggest you seek advice from your university careers service. They are geared up to help you. You will not be the first unemployed graduate to ask for help from them. They probably have a password protected jobs board just for their own graduates. Ask too at your local university careers service.

Many people never have grand career aspirations, they simply want to get a job where they feel valued and get paid at the end of the month.

Start networking. Look at employers websites in your area and click on the careers pages. There are jobs out there but you have to take the first steps. Just plunge in.

What a complete twonk. How on earth did you get through a politics degree with such a sensitive personality? I find it laughable that you seem to think as well that you have ownership rights of depression as an illness. You're right, I don't know anything about you, and I don't especially care to, but you don't know anything about me or anyone else here. You really do present yourself as a pretty immature person who thinks the world owes you some grand career while you wallow in self-pity all the while about your great depression.

    And for the record:

    Yes I'm Scottish
    Yes I'm married
No I'm not a wife-beater, my husband is lovely, thanks.
  • You know what? My husband has M.E. is bed bound 70% of the time, the rest of the time he is in a wheelchair and would KILL for the ability to work a full-time job again.
He never had big career aspirations, he always wanted to be a bus driver. He became a bus driver. I wanted to be a train driver, I knit for a living instead! Trust me that does NOT pay but it keeps a roof over our heads and food in our stomachs.

A McJob is better than a No Job!
